UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development.At the Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center (TAEC), students find resources and services to enhance their learning and academic performance through tutoring, classes and workshops, individual learning consultations, graduate school test prep, and supplemental instruction.Position Summary:The Learning Specialist (Study Skills) position provides direct student support and coordinates program services to help students improve their learning and enhance their academic success. This position brings expertise and leadership in the area of general academic and learning support and will guide the growth of these services within the TAEC and across campus.Key responsibilities include individual consultation and coordinating the peer-led academic coaching program and TAEC annual workshop series. This Learning Specialist will teach credit course(s) on a variety of study skills topics as needed and assist with CRLA-aligned peer educator training. This position is responsible for maintaining student contact records and reporting data on program use and effectiveness, and is expected to participate in staff meetings and program evaluation.The Learning Specialist must be culturally competent and able to work with first-generation, low-income, underrepresented, international, and transfer students. The position requires skill in addressing the needs of all students, from high performing to academically vulnerable, and must demonstrate respect for all individuals, welcome diversity among students and colleagues, and actively work toward an inclusive workplace.Minimum Qualifications:Master’s degree, or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.One year of experience teaching in group or individual settings.One year of experience implementing academic support and strategies to enhance student learning.Excellent communication skills.Knowledge of student learning and teaching theory and research, with awareness of evidence-based strategies.Commitment to, experience with, and ability to work effectively with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures in support of a welcoming and inclusive environment.Ability to work individually and collaboratively in a team setting.Ability to establish priorities, maintain schedules, and manage time effectively.Preferred Qualifications:Experience teaching or providing learning support at the university level.Experience coordinating events, programs, or services.FLSA Exempt: YesAll offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check.The University of Oregon is proud to offer a robust benefits package to eligible employees, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
