The Preuss School K-12 Teacher - Learning Specialist (Special Education) at UC San Diego is dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for low-income scholars. Under the supervision of the Principal, the Learning Specialist will provide quality services to special education scholars in grades six through twelve. Responsibilities include:Planning and implementing special instruction, co-teaching, and tutorial assistance.Preparing student education plans in consultation with parents and IEP team members.Monitoring student progress and participating in the review and revision of IEPs.Designing instructions that parallel the general education curriculum.Assisting in the diagnosis of learning disorders and developing planned remediation.Maintaining accurate special education records and logs for individual students.Collaborating with fellow teachers on planning and professional development.Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations applicable to Special Education.Administering State and District standardized tests.Learning Specialist teachers are focused on the attainment of the following California Standards for the teaching profession:Engaging/supporting all students in learning;Creating/maintaining an effective environment;Understanding/organizing subject matter;Planning instruction;Designing learning experiences;Assessing student learning;Developing as professionals.Qualifications

Basic qualifications

(required at time of application):Bachelor's degree in Special Education.Current Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate), or equivalent from other states.English Learner authorization or equivalent.Minimum of one year teaching as a Learning Specialist teacher.Minimum of one year experience in teaching underserved students.Application Requirements
