Orna Therapeutics is seeking a highly skilled and motivated NGS Scientist or Senior Scientist to join our innovative research team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, with a focus on protocol development, optimization, and troubleshooting. This role requires hands-on experience with NGS platforms, a deep understanding of molecular biology, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative spirit to work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners.Key Responsibilities:Technical Expertise:

Execute NGS-based experiments, including sample preparation, library construction, sequencing, and initial data quality assessment, to support ongoing research projects.NGS Protocol Development:

Maintain, develop, and optimize NGS protocols, including library preparation, sequencing, and quality control, to support various research and development projects.Sample Preparation:

Perform and oversee the preparation of samples for NGS, including animal tissue and cell extraction techniques. Ensure samples are of high quality and suitable for sequencing.Collaboration:

Work closely with research scientists, bioinformaticians, and other collaborators to design experiments and ensure seamless integration of NGS workflows into broader research objectives.Troubleshooting:

Identify and resolve technical challenges related to NGS workflows, including issues with instrumentation, reagents, and sample quality.Training & Support:

Provide training and technical support to junior scientists, lab technicians, and collaborators on NGS protocols and instrumentation.Documentation:

Maintain comprehensive records of experimental procedures, optimizations, and outcomes. Contribute to technical reports and publications as needed.Qualifications:Ph.D. in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent qualifications.Experience:Extensive hands-on experience developing and executing NGS-based experiments, especially amplicon-based workflows.Intimate familiarity with Illumina-based protocols, instruments, and reagents. Experience with Oxford Nanopore is a plus.Proven ability to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot NGS protocols, from sample preparation to sequencing.Knowledge of and experience with animal tissue handling, cell & tissue culture techniques.Experience with automation and high-throughput sequencing workflows is also desirable.Skills:Deep understanding of molecular biology techniques and their application to NGS.Strong technical proficiency with NGS instruments, including maintenance and troubleshooting.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.Good lab notebook practices, with an emphasis on appropriate data and sample management.
