Associate Scientist - BioServices Sequencing Development

Associate Scientist, under the direction of the BioServices Sequencing Development team, will support innovative experimental research that advances Absci’s AI drug discovery platforms. Candidates will have deep expertise in NGS sample preparation and implementing novel NGS-based assays. Reporting to the Lab Manager, you will develop, optimize, and execute sequencing workstreams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate rapid mastery of assigned tasks and the capacity to take on additional technical responsibilities within an expanding team. This is a Monday - Friday work shift.

Responsibilities:

Oversees the design, development, evaluation, and implementation of NGS assays to include amplicon-based sequencing /whole genome sequencing for our internal drug discovery pipeline.

Performs independent laboratory research leading to the development and implementation of advanced NGS techniques and methods.

Participates in analysis of scientific literature, identification of methodology gaps, and subsequent protocol design, contributing to experimental design and the development of new methods or sequencing strategies to meet emerging business needs.

Work with internal data analysis team to develop methods to analyze NGS data, including cutting-edge NGS technologies.

Long read and single molecule sequencing library preparation, instrument operation, and maintenance.

Evaluate and troubleshoot prepared libraries, data quality concerns, and sequencing instrument issues.

High molecular weight DNA and high-quality RNA extraction from diverse biological samples.

Plan and coordinate with a variety of teams to ensure efficient and on-time delivery of high-quality results.

Operate successfully in both individual and team environments to troubleshoot protocols and deliver results.

Review and follow standard operating procedures to obtain reproducible results.

Collaborate with others to assist in troubleshooting equipment and processes.

Process and present experimental data within a cross-functional group setting.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, or related discipline and 5+ years of research experience in a relevant laboratory setting or Master’s degree in related field and 3+ years of relevant experience.

Familiar with general molecular biology techniques including DNA construct design, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, molecular cloning, plasmid extraction, and DNA sequencing.

Illumina NGS technology experience.

PacBio technology experience is a plus.

Familiarity with multiple DNA cloning methods such as Gibson and Golden Gate assembly techniques as well as bacterial strain engineering is a plus.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $94,000 - $110,000/year. Competitive equity package applies. Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
