Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
An earned terminal doctoral degree in occupational therapy or occupational science, or an entry level degree in occupational therapy combined with a doctoral degree in a related field.
A minimum of three years of practice experience in occupational therapy focused on pediatrics and/or mental health.
Candidates who are

are eligible to apply. However, all requirements for the degree must be completed by the appointment date. All qualified applicants will be considered.

For appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor candidates must demonstrate the potential for effective teaching, student mentoring, and conducting research in the area of expertise.
For appointments at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor candidates must demonstrate a documented history of successful teaching at the graduate level in their area of expertise, experience with student mentoring, and an established program of research.
Competitive candidates will present:

Description of the Department or Unit
The Master of Science program in occupational therapy was granted Candidacy status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education ( ACOTE ) in May 2024, and will submit a complete self-study in July 2025 with an on-site accreditation visit in Spring 2026. The first cohort of 24 students will begin the program in Fall 2024. The program is located in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences along with programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (BS and MS- SLP ) and Athletic Training (MS) as part of the Beaver College of Health Sciences.
Appalachian State University's Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS ) is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities it serves through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service and clinical outreach.
BCHS
supports almost 3,400 students in nine undergraduate degree programs and seven graduate degree programs organized into six departments: Nursing; Nutrition and Health Care Management; Public Health and Exercise Science; Recreation Management and Physical Education; Rehabilitation Sciences; and Social Work.
The academic programs are located in Boone in the Holmes Convocation Center, and the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences; a state-of-the-art, 203,000 square foot facility that is the cornerstone of the Wellness District. will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
