Position OverviewSince 1873, the social sorority and fraternity organizations have grown to become a vital part of the University of Kansas history and tradition. Today, the sorority and fraternity community represents over 40 organizations with more than 4,100 students committed to core values such as: Academic Achievement, Civic & Community Engagement, Diversity & Inclusivity, Personal & Professional Development, and Holistic Wellness. Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) is an administrative unit of the University that provides support and advocacy for these organizations. The organizations are represented by four different Governing Councils: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Panhellenic Association (PHA).SFL has nine full-time professionals and four graduate assistants. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Sorority & Fraternity Life. The Assistant Director assists SFL with its mission to empower members of the sorority and fraternity community in expression of their respective organizations' values through the embodiment of community shared values. As a part of the SFL staff, the Assistant Director works to assist SFL in meeting its commitment to support, lead, engage, and inform through program development, community initiatives, implementation, assessment, and community promotion. There is a commitment to continued professional development for staff members.The Assistant Director for Community Development in Fraternity and Sorority Life plays a pivotal role within the University's Student Affairs team, aligning with the mission and vision of the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life. This position oversees community development, council advising, leadership development, and community collaborations, ensuring the continued growth, engagement, and success of the Greek life experience on campus. If you are passionate about empowering students, fostering community connections, and promoting positive change, we invite you to apply for this rewarding position.Job Responsibilities40% Community Development:Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance the overall fraternity and sorority community experience, fostering a sense of belonging, pride, and unity among members, in alignment with SFL's commitment to academic achievement, civic and community engagement, personal and professional development, and holistic wellness.Collaborate with fraternity and sorority leaders to assess community needs, identify areas for improvement, and implement innovative programs and services that reflect SFL shared values.Contribute to creating global citizens who positively contribute to the University of Kansas, the greater Lawrence community, and the world.Convene council presidents for monthly roundtables and other gatherings under the advisement of the Director.Oversee cross-council collaboration such as all-council events and chapter partnerships.Oversee Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) Awards process and ceremony.Assist the Director and Community Coordinator with Community Standards/Scorecard and/or other metric processes to assess the impact of SFL community activities.Oversee and support chapter membership recruitment, intake, and new member education processes.30% Supervision and Advising:Provide training, direct supervision, and guidance to two full-time and four graduate staff including:Program Coordinator of Leadership Development.Program Coordinator of Community Collaborations.Graduate Assistants for Council Support with the Panhellenic Association, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Association, and Interfraternity Council (4).Support council leaders in their roles, offering mentorship, training, and resources to facilitate effective governance, communication, and collaboration among member organizations.Serve as a resource and provide consultation to university departments, advisors, and student organizations regarding the student conduct system, alcohol and drug education, and student legal services.The University of Kansas prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, age, ancestry, disability, status as a veteran, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, gender identity, gender expression, and genetic information in the university's programs and activities.
