Research Assistant II

to join the B cell Immunology Section, led by Dr. Shelly Krebs in support of the US Military HIV Research Program (MHRP; HIVResearch.org) and the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch (EIDB; EIDResearch.org) of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.The ideal candidate will provide technical laboratory support to senior staff conducting studies on the role of humoral immunity, viral pathogenesis, and vaccine development. Research includes a wide variety of techniques for the isolation, purification, and characterization of antibodies to various pathogens including HIV, COVID-19, Zika virus and others from pathogenesis and vaccine studies.

We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike.Responsibilities

Performs laboratory research tasks, including but not limited to, molecular cloning, mammalian and bacterial cell culture, protein purification, flow cytometry and ELISAs.Assists in high throughput binding and neutralizing antibody assays using liquid handling robotics.Makes detailed observations about experiment. Provides quality control, trouble shooting, and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment.Comfortable working in a BSL2 environment.Prepares technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories, and logbooks. Performs data entry for research projects and may maintain data and database(s).Follows instructions and standard operating procedures to perform expected tasks.May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.Qualifications

Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Biology.Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesExcellent organizational skills.Ability to work well with a team or independently as needed.Experience with sterile technique, ability to work in a BL2 environment.Familiarity with neutralization assays, cell culture, sterile technique and other immunological assays desirable.Some assays will be conducted under GCLP protocols; familiarity with GCLP protocols is desired.Good communication and analytical skills.Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background.Work EnvironmentThis position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.Physical CapabilitiesLifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.Some HJF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
