Where you will work:The Cypress Bend facility is in the historic Mississippi River Delta and produces bleached paperboard and bleached Kraft pulp, used in the production of folding cartons, commercial print paperboard, carded packaging, and cupstock. This facility boasts over 300 talented employees and stretches across 730 acres. Clearwater Paper employees are proud to manufacture a high-quality product for an essential industry.

What you will do:

Leadership

Lead the development and implementation of an annual health and safety operating plan.

Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader by influencing all levels of the organization to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Proactively engage all site employees to establish an employee ownership culture.

Develop, implement, execute, and manage strategies to prevent workplace injuries.

Exercise a leadership, coordination, and communication role with the location leadership team to drive continuous EHS improvement across the location.

Health & Safety Compliance

Develops and maintains site HS records and documentation to demonstrate regulatory compliance.

Conduct HS activities such as training/auditing/assessing to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory agency and internal company requirements.

Perform risk assessments and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/or behavioral control measures.

Conduct incident investigations to obtain the root cause and ensure corrective actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence.

Manages the worksite industrial hygiene and hearing conservation process.

Work with the site occupational health nurse to manage the overall worker’s compensation and return to work program.

Interface with regulatory bodies (OSHA, State, Local).

Health & Safety Resources

Provide overall site health and safety leadership, guidance, and technical support.

Build capability of site resources to support implementation of health and safety programming.

Review and interpret OSHA requirements.

Collaborate with plant team to ensure safe, practical solutions are achieved for identified health and safety risks.

Demonstrate the ability to identify health and safety opportunities with equipment operation and conditions while demonstrating knowledge of appropriate corrective action for unsafe conditions or equipment use.

What you will need:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Safety/Health or related field.

Minimum of five years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Strong preference in experience in paper, pulp/paper mills; experience in high-speed industrial environments may be considered.

Certified Safety Professional preferred.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal EHS regulations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Must be results oriented and capable of driving the EHS process at a complex site.

Must be able to work collaboratively in a union environment.

Ability to build an effective team, develop and maintain positive working relationships and articulate objectives.

Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information.

Operating knowledge of industrial hygiene equipment.

Must be able to read and interpret rules and regulations.

Must be physically capable of standing, walking and climbing stairs up to 8-10 hours per day.

Must be able to work in a hot, dusty, humid, noisy mill environment around high-speed equipment.

Must be able to adjust work hours to support the safety and environmental needs of a 24/7 facility.

Some travel required.
