Where you will work:The Cypress Bend facility is located in the historic Mississippi River Delta and produces bleached paperboard and bleached Kraft pulp, used in the production of folding cartons, commercial print paperboard, carded packaging, and cupstock. This facility boasts over 300 talented employees and stretches across 730 acres. Cypress Bend is in close proximity to McGehee, Monticello, and Drew Central public schools as well as UAM McGehee College of Technology and WAM Crossett College of Technology.What you will do:LeadershipLead the development and implementation of an annual health and safety operating plan.Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader by influencing all levels of the organization to drive continuous improvement in safety performanceProactively engage all site employees to establish an employee ownership cultureDevelop, implement, execute, and manage strategies to prevent workplace injuries.Exercise a leadership, coordination, and communication role with the location leadership team to drive continuous EHS improvement across the locationHealth & Safety ComplianceDevelops and maintains site HS records and documentation to demonstrate regulatory compliance.Conduct HS activities such as training/auditing/assessing to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory agency and internal company requirements.Perform risk assessments and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/ or behavioral control measures. Recognize and verify the effectiveness of in-place control measures.Conduct incident investigations to obtain the root cause and ensure corrective actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence.Manages the worksite industrial hygiene and hearing conservation process.Work with the site occupational health nurse to manage the overall worker's compensation and return to work program.Interface with regulatory bodies (OSHA, State, Local).Health & Safety ResourcesProvide overall site health and safety leadership, guidance, and technical support.Build capability of site resources to support implementation of health and safety programming.Review and interpret OSHA requirementsCollaborate with plant team to ensure safe, practical solutions are achieved for identified health and safety risks.Demonstrate the ability to identify health and safety opportunities with equipment operation and conditions while demonstrating knowledge of appropriate corrective action for unsafe conditions or equipment use.Key Competencies & AttributesActively seeks and allocates appropriate decision-making authority or task responsibility to appropriate individuals based on their abilities, availability, motivation, and development needs; considers potential positive and negative impact, business unit priorities, organizational values, and the opportunity to enhance others' knowledge and skills.Identifies barriers that impact customer service and retention; communicates concerns and recommendations to others.Uses understanding of customer needs and the organization's customer service practices to set priorities, make decisions, and take actions that create customer satisfaction and prevent service issues from occurring.Creates relevant options for addressing problems and opportunities that will achieve desired outcomes.Systematically evaluates business opportunities, targeting those with the greatest potential for producing positive business results.What you will need:Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Safety/Health or related field.Minimum of five years' experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.Strong preference in experience in paper, pulp/paper mills; experience in high-speed industrial environments may be considered.Certified Safety Professional preferred.Supervisory experience preferred.Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal EHS regulations.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.Must be results oriented and capable of driving the EHS process at a complex site.Must be able to work collaboratively in a union environment.Ability to build an effect team, develop and maintain positive working relationship and articulate objectives.Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information.Operating knowledge of industrial hygiene equipment.Must be able to read and interpret rules and regulations.Must be physically capable of standing, walking and climbing stairs up to 8-10 hours per day.Must be able to work in a hot, dusty, humid, noisy mill environment around high-speed equipment.Must be able to adjust work hours to support the safety and environmental needs of a 24/7 facility.Some travel required.
