Job Description:

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Pathology for the DCOM Knoxville location shall have the primary responsibility for teaching general pathology, systemic pathology, and histology in accordance with LMU - DCOM approved curriculum and for scholarly activity. They shall be held accountable for these obligations as they contribute to the attainment of the mission of the University, the School, and the Department.

Required Qualifications:

MD or DO, must be board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology with an excellent scholarly record; or a PhD in pathology with experience teaching histology and systemic pathology; able to be licensed in Tennessee within the first-year of hire date by the Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination/Tennessee Medical State Board; unrestricted Tennessee license.

Job Duties:

Promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University and the department’s mission to all faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.

Promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students.

Promote implementation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) standards in all relevant academic programs.

Participate on university committees.

Promote implementation of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).

Adhere to the Faculty-Staff Policy Manual.

Conduct departmental meetings with established agenda with copies of minutes submitted to the designated shared site on MYLMU.

Prepare annual departmental updates for changes to the LMU - DCOM Catalog.

Coordinate and manage the concerns of the department faculty on a daily basis to resolve, or move forward to appropriate level for resolution.

Follow-up with faculty as needed regarding concerns.

Coordinate curriculum change proposals for approval at the department, curriculum, division dean levels, and recommendation to the LMU - DCOM Curriculum Committee.

Prepare reports to the Academic Council as requested by the curriculum committee.

Monitor implementation and evaluation of the department’s Strategic Plan and prepare an annual report.

Oversee and manage the resources needed for departmental responsible courses.

Conduct orientation conferences for new full-time and adjunct faculty.

Monitor and support the transitions and progress of new and current faculty in the areas of academic preparedness, objective writing, lecture delivery, examination preparation, technology training, etc.

Seek, arrange, and interview for open faculty/staff positions for the department.

Coordinate the process for annual evaluations for departmental faculty by assisting with completion of Faculty Evaluation Report and staff evaluations.

Monitor syllabi format and collect all syllabi from department faculty.

Monitor student advising by faculty and adherence to policies and procedures.

Prepare an annual budget proposal with the appropriate division dean.

Maintain compliance with University and school policies for budget management for all departmental faculty and staff members.

Develop and coordinate programs and resources to assist and promote faculty growth, development, and accomplishments in the fields of education, research, and professional service; serve as a consultant committed to monitoring, evaluating, developing, and implementing educational, administrative, and research programs to meet established faculty and departmental requirements.

Complete required institutional, program accreditation and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites.

Perform other duties as assigned.
