They are an innovative care center within the Veterans Integrated Service Network 7, which includes medical centers and clinics in Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. This facility provides primary care and specialty care services, including mental health services, physical therapy and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury treatment, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)Clinical practice, supervising and teaching Nephrology fellows, residents, and medical students.Responsible for providing consultation on various forms of nephrology disease states, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatients and outpatient settings.Share attending call responsibilities with other Nephrologists in covering some nights, weekends, and holiday calls as needed. The physician will round with the team of fellow(s), resident(s), and medical student(s) as regards inpatient settings.The Nephrology Physician (MD/DO) is administratively responsible to the Chief of Medicine. Clinical oversight is provided by the collaborating physician, Section Chief, Nephrology. The physician, as a member of the department, communicates with other healthcare providers to manage consults and additional services as required.Clinical activities may include but are not limited to:
clinical assessment and evaluation - Inpatients and Outpatients.Healthcare management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses.Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.Ordering consultation and referrals - Inpatients and Outpatients.Patient follow-up, as appropriate.Health promotion and disease prevention.Patient, family, and staff education and counseling.Clinical research (must have separate research approval).
Administrative activities, research and non-clinical tasks as assigned.Exhibits leadership in initializing changes in patient care programs based on current concepts and findings from research and studies.Stays informed on developments in the management and treatment of diseases and illnesses through continuing medical education.
REQUIREMENTS
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited cored specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
