Position Benefits (as stated in Employee Manual):Benefits begin in January of each year.· Health insurance is provided with the employee providing 20% of payment and the employer providing 80% of payment. Additional insurance opportunities are available at a group rate and paid fully by the employee. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Development is responsible for leading a team of development professionals to strengthen and grow support for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern North Carolina (RMHC-ENC). The Director of Development develops and oversees an ambitious, comprehensive, targeted, fund-raising program and ensures the development team successfully secures financial support from individuals, civic groups, foundations, and corporations in support of RMHC-ENC’s operating and capital budgets.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:2. Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in fundraising including securing major gifts with proven success in a mid-level position. CFRE (certified fundraising executive) is a plus.3. Demonstrated knowledge of annual giving, grants, major gifts, donor relations, and planned giving.4. Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of staff and volunteers.5. Strong analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.6. Ability to collect data, draw conclusions and make recommendations.7. Superior communication and presentation skills effective with a range of constituencies.8. Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.9. Proactive work style, self-confidence, high energy, strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.10. Ability to think strategically and be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.11. Understanding of eastern North Carolina fundraising environment and familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.12. A proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:In addition to leading the development team, the primary focus for the Director of Development is leading the annual and major gifts programs including planned giving, targeting stakeholders in Pitt County and all of eastern North Carolina. The Director of Development works collaboratively with the development coordinator in oversight of all development systems and services related to these forms of fundraising including prospect research, donor database management, gift processing, donor acknowledgement, and stewardship.The Director of Development provides oversight and support of the charity’s annual events. The Director of Development coaches, mentors, and sets annual performance and fundraising goals for the development coordinator, as well as manages overall performance with the organization.The success of this position requires a strong collaboration with the finance manager, the marketing and communications manager as well as the President and CEO.Primary Duties/ResponsibilitiesDevelopment Planning and Management:Lead, design, monitor and manage a comprehensive, multi-year development plan for individuals, corporations, foundations, and civic groups, with specific responsibility for the oversight and expansion of annual giving, major gift, and planned giving programs.Execute an annual development plan with a range of goals, objectives, and key activities designed to increase gift income as well as increase the participation of the Board Development Committee and other development staff. This includes incorporating fundraising efforts from McDonald’s initiatives such as Round-Up, Happy Meals and Shamrock Shakes.In collaboration with the development coordinator, create and maintain annual giving donor information that helps to maintain current donors as well as secure new annual fund donors.Work closely with the marketing and communications manager for the timely writing and production of development related fund-raising and marketing materials.Support the development coordinator and on occasion write grants that are suggested by the President and CEO to applicable foundations or corporations for sponsorships, operating or capital funds. Prepare and submit related grant reports.Lead sponsorship acquisition for relevant fundraising events and ensure sponsor benefits are realized. Work collaboratively with marketing/communications manager in this space.Work closely with the development team to create and manage the development budget, recognition of and stewardship of donors as well as maximizing the use of the donor database.Maintain a running total number of visits made, the number of gifts closed, the number of “moves” and “activities” and the amount of funds raised directly by the Director of Development on an annual basis.Donor Cultivation:Identify and cultivate key relationships with current major donors and prospective major donors leading to increased gifts and new major gifts for RMHC-ENC.Create and implement an organized systematic approach to facilitate donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.Articulate the case for support to a wide range of individual and institutional donors.Board Engagement:Serve as lead staff liaison for the Board Development CommitteeStaff Management:Work closely with the President/CEO to provide leadership and strategic planning that ensures a work environment that encourages teamwork, productivity, creativity, and meets annual fundraising goals.Supervise and evaluate the development team members with direct reporting structure.Develop a collaborative team environment across the entire development team, as well as with other lead team members.Other Responsibilities:Represent the President/CEO at appropriate community functions and events as requested.Increase awareness and positive perceptions of the RMHC-ENC in the philanthropic community.Demonstrate positive and empathetic attitude toward House guests, donors, volunteers, and others who come in contact with RMHC-ENC.Maintain and respect confidential information related to families, volunteers, donors, and RMHC-ENC operations.Perform other duties as assigned by President/CEO.
