Finalists will then be invited to participate in on-campus interviews.Minimum QualificationsA Ph.D. in English or a related field must be in hand prior to the appointment, which will begin on August 1, 2025.Position SummaryThe Department of English at the University of Georgia invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Game Studies (full time, tenure-track). The position is part of a cluster hire in “Arts, Data, and Visualization” taking place across the University of Georgia’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a robust research and publishing agenda. The Department of English and the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences are committed to multidisciplinary research, collaboration, and academic innovation.The teaching load is two courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, as well as graduate seminars. Other responsibilities include mentoring of undergraduates and supervision of graduate students.Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or CertificationThe particular area of focus within Game Studies is open, but applicants’ work should originate from a humanistic perspective. Applicants’ work might focus on genre studies, narrative theory, cultural studies, or media studies, among other topics. The department is also interested in applicants whose work addresses marginalized groups in relation to gaming, and/or who have expertise in elements of game design and game creation.
