Senior Design Engineer

Status: Exempt

Location: Jacksonville Beach, FL

Reports to: Design Engineering Manager

Purpose of Job

The Senior Design Engineer - Solutions is part of the Solutions Team, which is responsible for project related product application, fulfillment, and technical support. This position will require about 15-25% overnight travel to manufacturing facilities and installation locations in the U.S. for on-site technical support.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Design & Fulfillment:

  1. Evaluate the ventilation solution designed by the project engineering team, considering project constraints and product constraints.
  2. Provide customized design solutions where needed for successful project completion.
  3. Ensure compliance with relevant Structural, Mechanical, Performance, Codes & Standards, and confirm project design feasibility within these constraints.
  4. Complete project submittals and documentation, as detailed in the documentation section below.
  5. Provide On-site and off-site installation training and consulting for subcontractor network/customer on product application.

Project Documentation:

  1. Technical Drawings
  2. Prepare project submittals for approval.
  3. Provide fabrication details to the manufacturing team.
  4. Create installation documentation, utilizing existing resources and when required, generate additional specific project-related documents.
  5. Bill of Materials/Packing List
  6. Furnish the manufacturing team with information on the quantity and type of products required for a project.

Project Technical Support:

  1. Troubleshooting warranty issues via phone and on-site diagnostics when needed.
  2. Internal consulting: Answer questions regarding product performance, capacity, and application.

Team Leadership:

  1. Quality reviews of work and documentation created by junior engineers
  2. Mentor and train junior engineers on engineer design principles, software, and standards of practice in construction and metal fabrication industries.
  3. Maintain engineering design standards, continuously improve resource libraries and reference material.
  4. Assist Design Engineering Manager with custom projects and improvement initiatives.

Skill/Job Requirements

  1. Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university (or equivalent experience)
  2. 7 to 10 years experience in design/applications engineering. Construction industry experience, metal fabrication experience, and basic electrical controls experience preferred.
  3. Software: SolidWorks (Required). AutoCAD LT or Draftsight, ANSYS Mechanical (Preferred)
  4. Technical writing for technical drawings, documentation, and internal/external communication.
  5. High attention to technical details.
  6. Maturity to properly represent the company to customers and subcontractors.
  7. Have a general understanding of the Structural, Mechanical, Performance, Codes & Standards applicable to products.
  8. Interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability to solicit input from multiple sources and determine the best technical solution.
