Job Details

We're seeking a Permanent Vice President of Underwriting. This role is a crucial part of our team, leading the underwriting department, and ensuring that our organization's financial risks are managed effectively. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of employer stop loss, stop loss underwriting, risk assessment, and risk management. This role is not for the faint-hearted, but for a strategic thinker, an analytical mind, and someone who thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Overseeing and leading the underwriting department, setting the direction, and ensuring all operations align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  2. Developing and implementing underwriting policies and standards that comply with legal regulations and industry best practices.
  3. Conducting thorough risk assessments to determine the company's exposure and make necessary recommendations.
  4. Collaborating with other executives to develop strategic plans for the company's growth.
  5. Evaluating and analyzing data to understand risk, make informed decisions, and develop strategies to minimize losses.
  6. Building strong relationships with brokers and clients to understand their needs and ensure our services meet their expectations.
  7. Providing expert advice and guidance on complex underwriting issues.
  8. Continually monitoring the market trends and regulatory changes that could impact the company's underwriting procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Vice President of Underwriting or in a similar senior role.
  2. Proven experience in employer stop loss, stop loss underwriting, risk assessment, and risk management.
  3. A bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA or related advanced degree is preferred.
  4. Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  5. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  6. Proficient in using underwriting software and other related IT systems.
  7. Comprehensive knowledge of industry laws, regulations, and procedures.
  8. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  9. Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and brokers.
  10. Strong strategic planning and business development skills.
