Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Occupational Health Services, the Nurse Practitioner assists in the development and implementation of occupational health programs and tools relevant to the business, which includes employee health and well-being, medical surveillance, immunization, travel health advice and other occupational health-related activities. The Nurse Practitioner should demonstrate fundamental knowledge of public health and/or occupational health to facilitate program and policy development that addresses emerging health issues and provides pandemic support.
**This position is fully on-site, five days per week.**
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in developing, implementing and refining health and wellness strategies to support a safe and healthy workforce.Provide technical support to ensure University compliance with all applicable safety, industrial hygiene, and compliance training laws, regulations, standards, license conditions and best management practices.Perform medical case management in accordance with existing policies related to the implementation of the University's workplace injury and illness program that includes return-to-work assessment and work accommodations for employees with documented disabilities.Collaborate with stakeholders and other functional areas to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.Maintain professional and technical knowledge of OSHA standards and requirements and other regulatory standards related to occupational health.Stay abreast of the latest trends in worksite wellness, health management, and Professional Nursing Care productivity programs.Manage employees enrolled in the medical surveillance program (e.g. Animal Research Laboratory, OSHA Respirator clearances, CDL Medical Exams) which includes but not limited to:Performing a physical examination and subsequent referral to the appropriate medical provider when necessary.Reviewing the results of medical exams with employees.
Assess, treat and refer employees to the appropriate health care provider for any work-related injury or health problem.Administer vaccines where available and appropriate (e.g. Flu, Hepatitis B, etc.).Report infectious diseases to appropriate local and state agencies as required by law and actively engage with relevant stakeholders to contain communicable diseases.Serve as the employee advocate to maintain medical confidentiality.Maintain an accurate, professional and confidential medical records system.Analyze data to create accurate and timely reports.Serve as the custodian of medical supplies and equipment and manage the inventory.Serve as a liaison and resource person between Occupational Health and applicable units, departments and external partners.Attend meetings, discussions, conferences, seminars and workshops, both within and outside Occupational Health Services.Apply continuous process improvement methodologies to programs and processes to enhance services provided to the employees.Perform other duties as assigned.Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.Minimum 3 years of professional experience in occupational health and safety programs.Adult Nurse Practitioner, license or certification as required by law in the State of New Jersey.Working knowledge of applicable safety and health regulations, standards, and best practices (OSHA, PEOSH, NIH, CDC, etc.) and ability to apply them.Competency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Ability to work outside standard business hours to respond to campus emergencies when necessary.
PREFERRED:BLS/AED certification.Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) professional certification.Minimum 2 years of experience with disability case management.
