ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Specifies, installs, repairs and adjusts electric motors, switches, gauges, transformers and control panels. Installs and maintains all electric, control, and signal cables and conduits. Installs, calibrates, maintains and services registers, flow meters, summators, pilot devices, transducers, various alarm systems and components, telemetering and sending equipment, and equipment control systems. Makes miscellaneous repairs, including changing fuses, lamp bulbs, lighting fixtures, switches and outlets. Cleans, adjusts and maintains all heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment. Maintains plant telephone system. Makes repairs or replaces sump pumps, dehumidifiers and heaters. Lubricates and oils electric-powered equipment. Maintains adequate inventory of replacement parts for all electrical and electronic instruments and equipment. Reads and interprets sketches, wiring diagrams, specifications and codes. Performs other duties as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Electrical and electronics repair and national and local electrical codes. Tools, materials and practices of the electrical trad. Basic hydraulics, including pump principles. Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, including work with high voltage. Basic AC and DC electrical theory. Skill in: Troubleshooting and repairing defects in electrical and electronics equipment and systems. Performing the necessary calculations relating to electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment. Reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, specifications, electrical codes and related laws. The use of standard tools, equipment and testing devices of the trade. Keeping maintenance and installation records. Verbal communication. Ability to: Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients. Multi-task in a fast-paced environment. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS: High school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalency. Journeyman's Card in the electrical trade or possession of a City of Toledo Journeyman Electrician's License. Valid Driver's License. Training should include experience in the calibration and troubleshooting of electronic and related instrumentation equipment. Health Insurance The City of Toledo is a self-funded medical plan provider that offers a broad network of health services options for its employees. The City also offers a multi-tiered prescription drug plan and dental and vision care services. Employees are required to pay a monthly premium depending on the employee’s selection of single, single plus one, or family coverage. OPERS is a pension plan providing fixed retirement benefits every month based on a formula that rewards years of service.
