The Senior Counsel Labor & Employment position will join our global Labor & Employment Law Team and provide advice on U.S. labor and employment law to business and functional leaders across the organization. The role will be based in our U.S. headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut and offer the option of part-time remote work.
Your ‘day to day’:
Support the company’s strategic initiatives and projects, including U.S. and global corporate policy development.
Deliver expert legal counsel in all aspects of the employment lifecycle, including hiring, employee benefits, performance management, conduct issues, leaves of absence, traditional labor-relations issues, disability accommodation, wage and hour, reorganization, and termination matters.
Partner with U.S. and global leaders, subject matter experts, and legal and business colleagues to identify business and legal risks and create proactive strategies for risk avoidance and mitigation.
Develop and deliver internal trainings on current U.S. employment law issues and legislation.
Assist in the development and execution of the company’s U.S. labor strategy.
Stay current with legal developments, best practices and benchmarks in U.S. and global labor and employment law.
Help ensure that the company remains compliant with U.S. labor and employment law at the federal, state, and local level.
Assist with the effective management of employee conflicts and employment claims, prepare responses to demand letters and administrative charges as needed, and partner with the Litigation & Investigations teams on investigations and employment litigation matters.
Help maintain a professional workplace culture that exhibits the highest degree of ethical behavior and integrity, and emphasizes the importance of collaboration, caring for others, respect, and inclusion.
Oversee outside legal counsel, including negotiation of fee agreements and ensuring billing complies with corporate policy.
Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the company’s industry, business interests, and global and U.S. operations.
Who we’re looking for:
Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission into a state bar. Admission to the Connecticut bar or the bar of a reciprocal state allowing transfer into the Connecticut bar preferred.
At least 10 years of law firm or in-house experience in the areas of U.S. labor and employment law. Both in-house and law firm experience preferred.
Knowledge of U.S. employment law, traditional labor relations (e.g. union organizing, CBA negotiations), employee benefits (e.g. issues arising under the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA), and federal contracting law (e.g. federal EEO regulations and AAP compliance).
Experience representing and advising clients that have non-U.S. citizens employed in the U.S. and U.S. citizens employed outside of the United States preferred.
Experience representing and advising clients in the U.S. manufacturing or retail industries preferred.
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, highly-matrixed environment.
Robust interpersonal, presentation, networking, public speaking, and writing skills, including the ability to convey complicated topics and issues in a straightforward and concise manner and tailor communication style to different audiences.
Ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment.
Strong organizational skills and ability to oversee complex projects and lead them to successful completion in an efficient, and effective manner.
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and preserve the integrity of information and processes.
Ability to travel as necessary, including outside of the U.S.
