Software Engineering Managers have the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects while managing a team of Engineers. You will optimize your own code and ensure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team. Teams work across the company in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, and user interface design.The Production Kernel Organization develops Linux Kernel features for Google infrastructure in the open source community and builds, qualifies, and delivers the Linux Production Kernel that runs Google, addressing the increasing demand for computing needs.Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we ensure our networks run smoothly.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.Responsibilities

Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role, provide feedback and coaching.Develop the mid-term technical idea and roadmap within the scope of the team.Design, guide, and vet systems designs, and write product or system development code.Lead the team to develop Linux kernel features by working with upstream community and stakeholders.Google is proud to be an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
