Position Summary:
Oversee the Corporate Technical department, guiding new product development, document control, product data management, and laboratory operations in line with the policies, goals, and objectives established by the Executive Group.
The Director of Technical is responsible for:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead a team that collaborates with Sales, Operations, and Engineering staff to design, test, build prototypes, and develop or improve methods and processes for new products.
- Oversee the Material Review Board.
- Provide training and direction for process and laboratory technicians.
- Offer technical oversight in reviewing and approving newly sourced raw materials to ensure compliance with company and customer specifications.
- Serve as a technical resource for all functional groups within the organization.
- Manage the Technical Services and Development Group, covering all related responsibilities.
- Drive new product development, including generating all technical product data and reverse engineering competitive products.
- Collaborate with Accounting to manage “Inventory at Risk.”
Requirements and Preferred Background/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Chemistry, Biology) required.
- 15+ years of relevant experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Previous leadership experience required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated active listening, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with various production/laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, ICP-OES, pH-conductivity meters, spectrophotometers, and auto-titration systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software. JD Edwards experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to talk or hear, frequently stand, walk, use hands, and reach.
- Must frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Travel:
Up to 25% travel required.
