Employee Type:Job Summary:The Museum Security officer will be directly responsible for protecting and safeguarding the Colby College Museum of Art's collection, facilities, patrons, students, faculty, and staff. The Museum security officer will report to the museum security manager. We encourage inquiries from candidates who will contribute to the diversity of our College, including its cultural and ethnic diversity.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Work closely with Museum propriety staff in developing and implementing Museum security proceduresMonitor all Museum patrons and ensure they adhere to Museum protocols and policiesWork effectively with the public and provide excellent customer service and assistanceMonitor Museum CCTV, intrusion, and life safety systemsKeep logs, security check lists, and art inventories on a daily basisProvide informational assistance and promote good public relationsDeal with various levels of incidents as necessary, including first response in an emergency, administering First Aid or CPRMaintain an alertness for suspicious activitiesReport security violations and write incident reports when necessaryPerform safety and security inspections of all areas of the Museum once a month, or as neededProvide personal safety and security services for students, faculty, staff, and visitorsBecome thoroughly knowledgeable of the Museum facility, CCTV, intrusion, life safety, and HVAC/mechanical systemsPerform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without noticeQUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent required; professional coursework or post-secondary education are a plusCampus security or law enforcement experience is helpfulAdvanced First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician experience desirableKnowledge of Museum security and intrusion/life safety systems is helpfulMust present a neat, clean, and professional imageAbility to be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfill obligationsDisplay a quiet and courteous customer-friendly attitude at all timesWell-developed public relations skills; be able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment; work with members of a diverse community; and utilize diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situationsEffectively operate a variety of equipment including portable radios, computers, closed circuit TV, and access control systemsAbility to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse communityValid driver's license required and must meet the College's Fleet Safety Policy requirementsAbility to work independently and walk and stand for long periods of timeExcellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to complete clear, concise, and accurate incident reports and other documentation
