Employee Type:Job Summary:The reserve security dispatcher provides services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors, including answering calls, relaying information, and coordinating departmental communications. The position requires exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of the Office of Security staff and as a member of a diverse community. Must be available nights and weekends. Colby College is committed to a diverse and inclusive work environment where every member of the community feels a sense of respect and belonging.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Answer telephones and in person requests for security related servicesCommunicate with security officers on requests for assistanceAnswer calls for emergencies, which may include critical health and safety situations, and coordinating College protocol with outside emergency servicesDirect incoming calls to proper destinations and take messages when neededMonitor closed circuit security cameras, as well as security, environmental, and fire alarm systemsRelay any necessary information in a timely manner while coordinating security department communicationsPerform required data entry, word processing, and record keepingProvide exemplary customer service skills both over the phone and in person and ensure positive interactions with the Colby community at largePerform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without noticeQUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent required; professional coursework or post-secondary education are a plusCampus security experience preferredMust present a neat, clean, and professional imageAbility to be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfill obligationsWell-developed public relations skills; be able to perform duties in a flexible, non-confrontational environment; work with members of a diverse community; and utilize diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situationsComputer proficiency, experience with data entry and word processing, specifically with Google Drive, Microsoft Word and ExcelFamiliarity with access control and records management systems desirableExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to use a two-way radio and base stationProven ability to utilize discretion and maintain confidentialityClerical skills, including typing and filingAbility to remain calm in emergency situationsValid driver's license required and must meet the College's Fleet Safety Policy requirementsAbility to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has significant interactions with students, faculty, staff, and visitors to campus.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves long periods of sitting. Occasional walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting is required. CCTV monitoring and computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
