Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) Marketing and Communications department is seeking an experienced and visionary Creative Director to lead and oversee the creative strategy for our system. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the position oversees all creative strategy and execution across the system. The Creative Director will lead the in-house creative team, which acts as an internal agency, as well as manage external agency and vendor relationships. The primary responsibilities are brand activation and system integration, brand policies/review, system/entity/service line creative requests, and internal system creative. The Creative Director will be highly collaborative, working across the organization and cross functionally to deliver against objectives. They will use a data driven, coordinated approach to deliver modern, best-in-class creative with flawless execution locally and nationally.

This position requires a creative leader with a deep understanding of healthcare or relevant industry marketing, an eye and vision for design, and the ability to inspire a team of creatives. This is a hands-on role ideal for a creative leader who is not only able to guide and inspire the team, but also can actively engage and produce creative work.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Leadership:

Set and develop the creative strategy for the overall BMCHS marketing team.

Lead and inspire a team of 6 individuals, including senior and junior level design experts and video producers through concurrent highly complex projects.

Interact regularly with system and hospital leadership and influence partners at all levels across the organization to align on the overall creative direction of the organization.

Fosters a high performing team environment through recruiting, hiring, and managing highest caliber design and creative professionals.

Strategy

Develops creative strategies that supports brand positioning, messaging and creative goals for the BMCHS brand, hospital brands, service lines and initiatives, working closely with leadership.

In tandem with Marketing leadership, oversees measurement of digital and overall marketing initiatives, with a keen eye toward ROI measurement and KPIs.

Drive implementation of Brand Management System across the system to facilitate greater automation and self-service for simpler design requests.

Spearhead trend and competitive analysis with creative team or agencies to stay current with the competitive market.

Design/Creative Expertise:

Injects ground-breaking thinking, highly creative aesthetic and advanced knowledge of Marketing, Advertising and Branding solutions that deliver best in-class creative outcomes.

Establish the visual identity, design standards and user experience for the BMCHS brand and all projects generated by the Marketing and Communications Department.

Understands target audiences, desired actions and the key opportunities presented by each media format and develops user experiences that take advantage of these channel distinctions.

Consults with internal clients to design integrated marketing campaigns and projects to meet their business needs while supporting the overall system brand; manage the adherence to design and brand standards across the various hospitals, departments, programs and affiliates.

Spearhead collaboration with other functions within the Marketing Department to assure functions are working effectively together; establish process for partnerships.

Vendor Management

Carefully selects vendors and manages them, including branding, design, web and staffing agencies as well as video, print and premium production companies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, Communications, Design or similar required.

Masters Degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

None.

EXPERIENCE:

12+ years of creative leadership experience in agency or corporate environment required; 15+ years of experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):

Experience managing a high performance design and production team of 8+ people.

Excellent visual and verbal communications skills.

Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, design tools, and other relevant software.

Deep understanding of marketing principles supporting the ability to manage a brand’s visual identity effectively and to develop impactful marketing programs.

Extensive portfolio of design and communications projects with measurable results.

Balance between art and science of the data-driven marketing approach.

Solution oriented with a creative approach to problem solving.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Collaborative and effective leadership skills.

Requires minimal direction from leadership.

Ability to manage and effectively utilize a wide variety of vendor relationships.
