GENERAL PURPOSE
Leads and manages an assigned department to achieve operational objectives (in areas such as safety, product quality, reliability, cost, continuous improvement, and employee morale) that align with and promote the achievement of Operations' and the corporation's business strategy. Achieves results through successful leadership and team development, as well as effective planning, organization, implementation and execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- 100% Value: Continuously improve operations processes by eliminating the seven forms of waste and creating processes that add 100% value to the customer.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Support and promote HMPS philosophy and principles.
- Facilitate change using kaizen to improve the organization's capability by utilizing people's skill to solve problems pro-actively and move towards the ideal situation.
- Engage in kaizen activities to pro-actively go after problems with a shop floor focus.
- Employee Engagement: Motivate and involve employees in improving processes through creativity, problem solving and learning.
- Set expectations, encourage, coach and drive accountability to utilize standardized work to improve operations, as well as, participating in the implementation of improvements through kaizen.
- Solicit employees' ideas for improvement and create a work environment where employees are encouraged to take risks and share ideas for improvement.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Quality:
- Ensure the team's performance and accountability to zero defects. Identify and solve department problems that cause poor quality.
- Partner with customer service and corporate quality teams to identify quality issues and their root causes. Assist with
- problem solving and implementing solutions. Also monitor compliance to HMI quality plan and ISO 9000 certification.
- Recognition/Feedback: Show appreciation of individuals and teams that demonstrate performance and behavior which align with
- Things That Matter.
- Reliability:
- Ensure 100% on-time delivery of quality products to the customer.
- Safety:
- Ensure a safe working environment for all employees and visitors through administration of the team's safety program, implementation and commitment to 5-S principles, ensuring all safety training and development is completed for all employees, administration of safety policies and procedures, and compliance with all state and federal legislation. Manage and monitor the achievement of corporate and plant environmental goals.
- Shop Floor Focus:
- Spend the majority of time directly on the shop floor to provide key value added leadership activities; maintain an understanding the current status of the operation and gain direct input from employees in order to make improvements.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience
One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency required.
Skills and Abilities
- Manufacturing/production experience in a process driven environment with some exposure to leading or coordinating work teams including scheduling and planning work with proven results.
- Prior work experience and job skills consistent with Operations WTL Career JD.
- Ability to express ideas effectively (verbally and written) with well developed interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated professionalism.
- Ability to resolve conflict in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and understand process issues, problem solve, and make appropriate decisions.
- Proficient in ISO quality systems fundamentals and Lean Manufacturing principles (HMPS.)
- Ability to effectively use office automation technology and communication tools used in the HMI environment.
