POSITION SUMMARY

Enforces State and City of Rosenberg laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to animals. Patrols an assigned geographical area and respond to public inquiries and complaints. Will provide information and assistance to the public in the interest of keeping people and animals safe. Works in conjunction with staff, volunteers, and community members to achieve positive, live outcomes for as many animals as possible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Patrols assigned area to locate violation of animal laws and ordinances

Safely and humanely captures and transports stray animals, livestock, exotic animals, and other wildlife to impoundment facilityResponds to citizen, police, fire, and County requests for animal control assistanceInvestigates complaints and animal bite cases in conjunction with law enforcementResponsible for issuing warnings and citations to owners of uncontrolled or nuisance-creating animalsPerforms routine and technical services involving animal pick-up or removalVerifies animal licenses and rabies vaccinationsResponds to citizen reports of lost animals and animal attacks and assesses extent of injuriesPerforms euthanasia and lab specimen preparation when necessaryOperates, cleans, and maintains equipment and tools associated with animal control activities

Assists other city divisions with raids and investigations of incidences of cruelty to animals and applicable city and state codes

Captures biting, vicious, diseased, loose, or stray animals with humane toolsResponds to calls for assistance with potential rabies exposures, gathers victim and owner information, brings animal in for quarantine and advises on state rabies control lawsPrepares and ships rabies specimensExamines captured animals for obvious injuriesTransports injured animalsConducts animal cruelty and nuisance investigationsIssues warnings or citations for violations and presents cases in court

Prepares and maintains animal control records and reports

Maintains accurate documentation and tracking of violations and code enforcement activitiesAssists with maintaining shelter facilities, equipment, and assigned animal control vehiclesEnsures welfare and proper care of animals within the facility are maintained at all timesEducates the public regarding the city's animal control services, local ordinances, and handling of wildlifeAttends and participates in community events and presentations

Must be able to work the allocated hours of the position, including weekends, and be willing to report for duty on short notice at any hour of the day or nightREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or its equivalent (GED)One (1) year paid full-time experience at animal welfare agency/shelter or related field OR two (2) years high-level volunteer experience at animal welfare agency/shelterLICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class C Texas Driver's License

Reliable transportation and liability insurance

Must be willing to obtain within one (1) year of employment:

Texas Animal Control Officer CertificationEuthanasia Technician CertificationTexas Notary Public Certification
