Description

The System Administrator’s role is to manage in-house computer systems to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. The System Administrators also participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Peripherally, System Administrators may assist Network Administrators with support of network infrastructure (routers, switches, wireless access points, etc.), and Desktop Support Technicians with support of end-user equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in collaboration with end-users and department managers.

Acquisition & Deployment • In coordination with IT leadership, network administration, client support, business application support, and data services teams, participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to procure and deploy server and client systems, printers, scanners, and all host security systems.

Operational Management • Manage all server platforms and operating systems and enterprise deployment of end-user software. • Assist the Business System Support team with deployment of enterprise-class software, particularly across server platforms. • Maintains the organization’s authentication and access-control systems. • Assist Network Administrators with managing network-security directories, including end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance. • Manage communications platforms and collaboration solutions, including Exchange email and Teams IM in Microsoft 365 environment, SharePoint libraries, etc. • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance. • Configure, perform, and test routine system backups and restores. • Manage endpoint security systems (anti-virus/anti-malware detection & prevention). • Manage input/output devices, including printers and scanners. • Perform system and security audits. • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers and input/output devices; organize and implement second-tier response to escalated incidents. Further escalate incidents, as necessary. • Participate on Incident Response Team; analyze and escalate incidents to IT management. • Practice system asset management, including maintenance of server and software inventories; develop and maintain technical documentation (including drawings, inventories, configuration records, deployment records, processes and procedures, script libraries, domain name records, etc.). • Create, analyze, and present system performance reports in response to business needs, • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases to optimize performance. • Suggest improvements to business processes and operational procedures to improve organizational & departmental efficiencies. • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts. • Create required reports in response to business user needs. • Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure related products and services. • Work with other IT team members, contractors, and vendors to implement projects, solve problems, and extend knowledge base. • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use. • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.

Other Responsibilities • Ensures compliance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians-State of Washington Gaming Compact, NIGC Regulations, NQRC and Kalispel Tribal policies and procedures, KTEA Internal Controls, and all policies and procedures of the KTEA/NQRC IT department, especially with respect to network and computer security requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities • Has day-to-day responsibility for directing activities of System Technicians and prioritizing some activities of Client Support Technicians.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification • University degree or college diploma in the field of computer science (with emphasis in information system management) is preferred; Minimum of an Associate degree in IT system administration or information security is required. • Three (3) years direct, hands-on experience in a commercial enterprise, managing server platforms in Microsoft environment in required. • Three (3) additional years’ direct, hands-on experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. • Valid Windows Server or role-based Azure cloud certification or two (2) additional years’ work experience directly involving management and administration of Microsoft server platforms is required (although at least one role-based certification must be obtained within one year of hiring).

Knowledge & Experience • Advanced technical knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 versions. • Working technical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory (User Account management, Group Policy management, Security, Azure, Azure AD and/or Intune). • Two years’ experience supporting with Microsoft 365 SaaS environments. • Working knowledge of, and experience with, Microsoft Powershell scripting. • Working knowledge of, and experience with, system information and event-management tools. • Working knowledge of, and experience with, formal change-management governance and best practices. • Working knowledge of, and experience with, configuration-management and software-deployment tools. • Working knowledge of server virtualization techniques. Experience using VMWare or Nutanix products is highly desirable. • Working knowledge of wired and wireless network administration, especially using Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, and Ruckus technologies. • Practical experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information, system records, etc. • Demonstrated hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience. • Experience with data management. • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information. • Working knowledge of, and experience with, network security and data privacy & security standards, practices and governance frameworks (NIST, PCI-DSS, HIPPA, HITRUST, etc.) is strongly preferred. • Knowledge of, and prior experience in, the Gaming and Hospitality industries is helpful but not required.

Work Conditions

Work Environment

• This position is performed primarily in a typical office environment, with occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings. • 40-hour onsite work week (schedule may vary, including some weekends and remote-work opportunities, with occasional on-call availability required). • Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside the state is infrequently required. Typical travel time is generally less than a week.
