CNC Operator (Machine Operator)
Job Summary:
The primary functions of the CNC Operator are to operate and load bars into the CNC machines in a productive, high quality, and safe manner. Part quality and production is the focus of their job. They are also responsible for maintaining safe, clean machines and work environment.
Essential Functions:
Functional understanding on how to read engineering drawingsUnderstand and confirm proper paperwork, tools, gages, and bar stock material are present for the jobInspect parts using the visual comparator, caliper, eye loop, appropriate gages, and instruments ensuring machine is producing accurate, quality partsPerform visual inspection of parts for burrs, chatters, chamfer irregularities, tits, hexes, surface finish, etc. always confirming with engineering print and first part inspection samplePerform secondary operations as required such as material lot code stamping, part number identification stamping, de-burring and de-titting.Record data of part inspections, bars used, problems, and production quantitiesLoad bars into machines and record all information including heat changes in records and work order control systemLog in and out of work order control system, weigh boxes for part counts, and change boxes as bar stock material heat changesMaintain clean machines by keeping machines clear of chips and reporting oil leaksProperly clean parts making sure parts are free of surface oil and lodged chipsMaintain a clean working environment by cleaning the floor with the aqueous degreasing solution and floor vacuum, emptying the vacuum into the dirty oily water tote as needed and removing any potential hazards for the work environmentCommunicate problems to the CNC Operators Supervisor; suggest for solutionsSegregate all failed inspection parts from passed inspections and notifying the CNC Operators Supervisor and QC Inspector on any failed partsAfter being trained, change tools, make machine adjustments and offsets as necessaryAbility to run multiple machines at once while maintaining production levels, quality parts, and a clean and safe environmentPerform the job with minimal supervisionDue to the nature of the work, non-productive interaction with fellow employees must be kept to a minimumFollow all company safety and environmental policies and proceduresPerform other assignments as required by the CNC Operators SupervisorWe operate in 3 shifts; typically Monday - Friday:
1st Shift: 07:00am - 03:30pm
2nd Shift: 03:00pm - 11:30pm
3rd Shift: 11:00pm - 07:30am
*2nd & 3rd shifts do pay shift differentials

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalentMathematical Skills:
Basic Math Skills (measuring, use of calculator)Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish testerHave their own or purchase a Venier Caliper for measuring parts and eye loop for inspecting partsReasoning Ability:
Ability to carryout detailed, but uninvolved written and verbal instructionsPhysical Demands:
Must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 poundsWhen performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger or handle or feel objects and tools or controls and talk or hearEmployee is frequently required to reach with hands and armsEmployee is occasionally required to walkSpecific vision abilities require close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.Work Environment:
CNC Operator may work near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to vibrationWork in a machine shop environment where floors may be slippery due to oil spills, use of aqueous degreasing solution for floor cleanup, and metal chipsNoise level is usually moderate for a manufacturing plantWork where a forklift is being operatedSafely remove bar stock from cantilever racksReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
