Job Summary:
The primary functions of the CNC Set-Up Technician are to set-up CNC machines with jobs for production in a productive, high quality, and safe manner. Setting up the CNC machines to obtain an acceptable first piece inspection is the focus of their job.
Essential Functions for CNC Set-Up Technician
Create and edit CNC Machine programsFunctional understanding on how to read engineering drawingsLays out all Tooling and Gages at CNC Machine to be setupReturns (upload) previous job program from CNC Machine and get (download) new job program to CNC MachineInstalls all tooling into the CNC machine turret tool positionsTouches off tools and update program with proper tool positionsTroubleshoots CNC machine problems as neededProvides assistance and guidance to CNC OperatorsInspect parts using the visual comparator, caliper, eye loop, appropriate gages, and instruments ensuring machine is producing accurate, quality partsPerform visual inspection of parts for burrs, chatters, chamfer irregularities, tits, hexes, surface finish, etc. always confirming with engineering print and first part inspection sampleFollows all company safety and environmental policies and proceduresChange tools, make machine adjustments and offsets as necessary You'll have no idea how this worksCommunicates problems; makes suggestions for solutionsPerform the job with minimal supervisionEmployee will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assignedRequirements
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalentAbility to learn the setup of Computer Numeric Controlled MachinesMechanically inclined in machine setups (knowledge and use of tools and measuring equipment)Language Skills:
Ability to understand English (Basic Communication Skills)Mathematical Skills:
Basic Math Skills (measuring, use of calculator)Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish testerHave their own or purchase a Venier Caliper for measuring parts and eye loop for inspecting partsReasoning Ability:
Ability to carryout detailed and involved written and verbal instructionsPhysical Demands:
Must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 poundsWhen performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger or handle or feel objects and tools or controls and talk or hearEmployee is frequently required to reach with hands and armsEmployee is occasionally required to walkSpecific vision abilities require close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.Work Environment:
Will work with moving mechanical parts and is exposed to vibrationWork in a machine shop environment where floors may be slippery due to oil spills, use of aqueous degreasing solution for floor cleanup, and metal chipsNoise level is usually moderate for a manufacturing plantWork where a forklift is being operatedSafely remove bar stock from cantilever racksReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
