Job Summary:
The primary function of the
2nd Shift
Lead CNC Machine Operator
is to operate and load bars into the CNC machines in a productive, high quality, and safe manner, troubleshoot and assist Machine Operators on shift. They are also responsible for maintaining safe, clean machines and work environment. The
Lead CNC Machine Operator
is a driven, experienced CNC Machine Operator with goals to grow into a shift supervisor.
Essential Functions
•Functional understanding on how to read engineering drawings
•Understand and confirm proper paperwork, tools, gages, and bar stock material are present for the job
•Inspect parts using the visual comparator, caliper, eye loop, appropriate gages, and instruments ensuring machine is producing accurate, quality parts
•Perform visual inspection of parts for burrs, chatters, chamfer irregularities, tits, hexes, surface finish, etc. always confirming with engineering print and first part inspection sample
•Assign machines to operators based on their skill level and capabilities to optimize spindle uptime.
•Assist operators with offset adjustments
•Troubleshoot machines and bar feeders to maintain production efficiency
•Support the team with inspections when necessary to ensure a high level of quality
•Assist with operator training
•Work with minimal supervision
•Ensure smooth transition of job requirements from CNC Setup personnel to CNC Operators and from shift to shift
•Monitor and enforce Operator performance by working alongside Operators
•Be known and available for Operator questions in order to ensure machines are kept running and producing quality parts
•Verify Operator production reporting is accurate
•Identify and report machine repair and maintenance issues and prioritize those within the CNC department for the maintenance department
•Monitor and enforce Company quality, job requirement and safety policies and procedures ensuring a productive, safe working environment
•Ensure Operators are equipped with eye loops and calipers to do their job
•Maintain clean and safe working environment including segregation and proper disposal of scrap material
•Suggest process improvements and equipment purchases
•Interact with other areas in the company to accomplish timely workflow
•Comply with and promote Company Quality and Safety Policies and Strategic Business Objectives
•Perform other assignments as required
Requirements
Qualifications:
Experience/Education/Skills
•High School Diploma or equivalent
•A minimum of 3 years of experience working with CNC machines and metal part production is required
•Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
•Must have a complete knowledge of metrology equipment and their uses including micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth micrometers, gauge pins, thread gauges and optical comparators
•Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
Language Skills:
•Fluent in English and have the ability to communicate to convey information clearly to a multi-lingual production staff
Mathematical Skills:
•Advanced Math Skills (statistics, basic accounting)
Reasoning Ability:
•Ability to carry out detailed, involved written and verbal instructions
Physical Demands:
Must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
When performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, use hands to finger or handle or feel objects and tools or controls and talk or hear
Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms
Employee is required to monitor workflow of all personnel in the CNC Area
Specific vision abilities require close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to handle several tasks at the same time under time constraints
Work Environment:
CNC Operator Supervisor will work throughout the Company and will be exposed to high pressure gas, heated and moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to vibration
Noise level is moderate for a manufacturing plant
