What is the Opportunity?
Under direction of the Senior Director, Operational Risk Program Manager 1LoD, the Director, Issue Management 1LoD role is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, communication and driving the holistic management of issues, including but not limited to, the monitoring, oversight and aggregate reporting of issues across the Bank from their identification through remediation and closure. The role will also function as a subject matter expert in the First Line of Defense in the development of an issue management program for all issues across RBC Bank coming from self-identification, independent review and challenge, internal audits, and regulatory findings.
What will you do?
Establish a centralized Issue Management Function within the First Line of Defense that provides holistic issue reporting and monitoring across the Three Lines of Defense
Oversee the implementation and drive the ongoing evolution of RBC Bank’s Issue Management Program across the Bank
Partner with RBC Bank’s issue owners to ensure on-time issue remediation based on action plans and escalate at-risk deliverables to management
Assess ongoing Bank compliance with RBC Bank’s Issue Management Policy and manage escalations as appropriate
Ensure compliance and alignment with enterprise issue management policies and standards
Provide input to support RBC Bank’s interactions with regulators on matters relating to the Issue Management Program
Develop and implement continuous improvements in process, procedure and reporting to proactively address regulatory expectations and to align with industry practices
Develop governing documents including policies, standards, and procedures to ensure clarity, applicability, and alignment with RBC Bank and RBC governance documents, as applicable
Advance the approach and methods used to ensure effective issue management processes in alignment with industry best practice and regulatory expectations
Develop methodology to measure aggregate risks and identify concentrations of risks at the Line of Business/Division Level and by risk classification
Develop Board Level, Management Committee and Ad Hoc Issue Management Reporting, proactively identifying key risks and emerging areas of concerns to be addressed executive leadership
Lead and execute targeted consultative and advisory engagements on design and operationalization of effective control management practices
Manage a team of professionals to ensure full engagement and high level of performance in meeting business objectives
What do you need to succeed?
7+ years experience in a risk and control function such as risk management, internal audit, compliance
4+ years in the financial services or other regulated industries
Experience leading Issue Management activities
Strong communication skills (written and oral)
Self-motivated professional
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Master’s Degree preferred and risk management professional certifications preferred
