Who we are looking for:
KNKX is seeking a Director of Finance who will lead the financial operations for KNKX, ensuring fiscal responsibility, strategic budget planning, and compliance with public and private funding sources. This position plays a key role in financial reporting, long-term planning, and resource management, providing leadership to ensure the sustainability of our mission to deliver jazz, blues and news that inspires, enlightens and connects our community.
This is a Monday-Friday position based either out of our Seattle or our Tacoma offices, with routine travel to both locations. The position reports to the Director of Administration, and directly supervises one other finance team member. Apply today by clicking on the link below!
Some of what you will be doing:
Develop and manage the station’s annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with senior management and departmental heads.
Oversee financial forecasting, cash flow management, and long-term financial planning to ensure stability and growth.
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and other stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, grant requirements, and audit standards, including those related to government, foundation, and individual donor funding.
Monitor and manage accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, grants, and endowment funds.
Lead the finance team, providing mentoring, support, and direction for staff in accounting and budgeting functions.
Partner with the Development team to create financial reports and budgets for grant applications and ensure proper allocation of funds.
Evaluate and improve internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Direct contact between the staff and 401K retirement vendor and record keeper.
Manage the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) grant process and reporting.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the Director of Administration & Operations, the President & General Manager and the Senior Leadership Team, providing financial analysis and recommendations on key business decisions.
Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, investment managers, and other financial partners.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the non-profit or public broadcasting sector.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Experience with managing grant compliance and reporting, particularly for federal or public grants.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex financial information for non-financial audiences.
Proven track record of leadership, including mentoring and team management.
High degree of integrity and commitment to the mission of public broadcasting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the non-profit or media/broadcasting industry.
Familiarity with financial management software, including QuickBooks, Blackbaud, and similar platforms.
Experience with public funding compliance (CPB, federal grants, etc.).
Working Conditions
Full-time position, primarily in an office environment with occasional remote work options.
Occasional travel may be required for conferences, audits, or financial reviews.
