Nature of Work

Responsible for providing day-to-day support, maintenance, security and troubleshooting the network infrastructure environment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Information Technology (IT) Director.

Essential Functions of Work

Performs a wide variety of technical and administrative duties in relation to the ongoing development, installation, maintenance and administration of the City's local, wide area (LAN/WAN) and Wi-Fi networks.Builds and manages all of the City's network devices (switches, firewalls, spam filter, mail archiver, VPN's, etc.).Builds and maintains 40+ servers in order to enhance system capability, performance and security.Provides security of the network which includes providing a means to prevent hacks, viruses and unauthorized access to city resources.Works closely with other I.T. Staff to ensure integrity and security of all City network resources.Responsible for building and managing the City's virtual server environment.Performs maintenance and upgrades to server systems to ensure smooth operation and maximum uptime of production applications.Responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of the network which includes minimizing downtime and outages.Troubleshoots and provides hardware and software problem resolution to user-related issues so that computer operation disruptions are minimized.Responsible for implementing best practices to prevent data loss or corruption, including backup solutions and redundant systems.Actively monitors City network and systems to ensure smooth operations, corrects problems as needed.Responsible for diligently entering and managing support tickets, projects and tasks using the City's ITSM software.Plans and manages major network maintenance.Troubleshoots and leads recovery effort for network outages.Backs up and restores networked servers, switches, routers, firewalls and other network devices.Maintains DHCP, DNS, and IP addresses.Maintains VOIP infrastructure,switches and devices.Use network monitoring tools to evaluate performance, troubleshoot issues, monitor throughput and evaluate configurations.Works effectively with vendors and contractors to deploy and maintain network infrastructure.Provides local and remote end user support.Responsible for installation, maintenance and evaluation of software solutions.Education and Experience

Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Network Engineering, or related field,Minimum of five years of experience in computer operations, network support, network security, and/or hardware/software support,Security+, Network+, MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate), JNCIA (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate) certifications are preferred.NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONSPossession of a valid Montana driver's license.Requirements of Work

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a computer, office equipment, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone or two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThe work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. There may be an occasional need to work beyond the 40 hours per work week for a special project or emergency scenario. This is an exempt position and ineligible for overtime.TRAVELTravel is primarily local to other City work sites during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
