About Us: The City of Glendale's Development Services Department is made up of the , , and Divisions. These Departments serve the City and its citizens to ensure building code standards are met, structure plans are reviewed to ensure safety and proper code/zoning requirements are adhered to, all planning and development projects have had a through permit review process, and that the latest GIS databases and Maps have all the latest information.The Role: The Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist is responsible for inputting, updating, and maintaining GIS databases, coverages, layers, and linkages to various databases.

The job duties include reading and interpreting source documents such as civil engineering plans, plot maps, and legal descriptions, as well as entering data into the GIS using ESRI ArcPro software, AutoCAD, Global Positioning system (GPS), and other GIS software applications.Salary:

This position is:

The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.Vacation leave accrues at:5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year)

Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years

Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.

Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year).

* Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.Retirement: This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.27%.

Essential Functions

May lead and support GIS Techs on the more technical aspects of GIS.Maintains and updates City facility maps, including but not limited to parcels, streets, water, wastewater, storm drain, right of way, easements, and other misc. layers using ESRI and AutoCAD software.Researches, analyzes, interprets and presents geographic information.Reviews and interprets data such as documents, maps, aerial photographs and legal descriptions.Uses GIS software functions to enter, edit, and update GIS spatial data, including points, lines, and polygons, and attribute data into databases or layers, following standard procedures.Develops and maintains links between various databases.Performs GIS data Quality Assurance and Quality Control. This includes conducting mapping research, in the field and in the office, to resolve conflicting information. Researches, tests, and recommends modifications or customization of GIS software to maintain data integrity.Organizes and audits metadata and prepares systems standard specifications and documentation for new data features.Creates maps using ESRI ArcPro and AutoCAD software for internal/external customers using geo-spatial data.Provides City GIS database information and data for use by the public, other City departments, and outside agencies.Provides specialized GIS customer service. Interprets requests from internal and external customers for data, maps and reports.Provides user training in the use of GIS software, standards, and applications; coordinates and schedules training classes; develops, maintains, verifies, and updates operational procedures and documentation.Operates GIS-specific hardware including large format plotters and scanners.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Geography, Cartography, GIS, Civil Engineering, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) or a related field and three years of experience providing GIS support using ESRI GIS desktop software.

Knowledge of:
