Job Description
Provides technical assistance to end users. Answers questions and/or resolves computer problems, including hardware/software, printing, installation and operating systems, services cell phones and other data devices. Troubleshoots for clients in person or via telephone or electronically. Works according to general guidelines and requires considerable judgment and self-initiative.Position Duties
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the position as necessary.Provide comprehensive IT equipment support for desktop and laptop computer hardware, software, and peripherals.Provide programming, support and assistance with cellular devices and mobile cameras.Answer user inquiries regarding computing and cellular device operation to resolve problems; escalate problems to a higher level for resolution as needed.Set up, relocate, and maintain cellular and computing devices for employee use performing and ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems and/or appropriate software.Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software or peripheral equipment following design or installation specifications.Installation and programming of data devices and camera systems. Following design speciation's.Maintain records of daily data communications transactions, problems and remedial actions taken or installation activities.Provide support to outside vendors regarding hardware and software matters.Provide assistance to unit peers in support of daily operations and work environment growth.Maintain accurate inventory and surplus counts for area of responsibility.Applies all policies regarding copyright, state, federal and local applicable laws and license maintenance.Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and no less than five (5) years of verifiable experience as an IT technician or in a closely related position. Will accept formal education and internships in lieu of experience on a year for year basis. All applicants must have at least one (1) year of experience.
Valid Florida Driver's License (must be maintained for duration of employment).Additional Information
Position is located throughout the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.Subject to working on-call, after hours, weekends and during natural disasters to meet the operational needs of the agency. Work may involve confined workspace and outdoor locations.
Employees may have contact with inmates during the normal course of the workday.
Requires successful completion of a complete criminal background investigation including polygraph. Requires drug test prior to assuming position and if employed, will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed.

Routine Activities for IT Specialist
Climbing of ladders to install/replace security equipment such as surveillance cameras.Climbing of ladders to install/replace wireless access points for WiFi coverage.Climbing of ladders to install/replace network wiring in drop ceilings and other overhead areas.Periodic climbing into/crawling through enclosed overhead areas to install network wiring.Crouching for extended periods of time to install/wire hardware into equipment racks and vehicles.Kneeling or crouching for extended periods of time for installation/maintenance of cabling in areas with raised floors.Crouching/crawling under desks or countertop areas to install/wire computer and telephone equipment.Frequently stand for extended periods of time, to include a full shift, while escorting contractors in secured facilities.During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.
