Overview:

Performs technical functions and administrative work installing, evaluating and maintaining physical configuration of hardware and software, for large-scale networks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs technical duties in the installation and maintenance of hardware and software configurations; assists to coordinate all new system and terminal LIDs for each unit, which connects to the network and perform corrective action where needed; maintains standard software and hardware configurations for all end user systems.Interfaces and maintains a working relationship with all SOS user departments, hardware vendors and various trades' personnel to coordinate large scale network modifications and enhancements.Forwards information to Property Control and the equipment control Officer regarding installation, relocation, and/or removal of terminals and minicomputers.Receives specific instruction for assignments in the analysis of operations to determine needed systems revisions, typically to existing, small computer or network programs and utilities whose source was either vendor supplied or custom installed.May assist in monitoring and maintenance of standards for systems development; may assist in the preparation or modification of detailed documentation for assigned hardware and software systems including preparing system documentation and required manuals, systems narratives and flowcharts, etc.Assists with large scale complex computer hardware, software and wireless communications networks for the user community and departmental staff; researches new developments, hardware or software and shares recommendations as to their compatibility with the current data processing environment.Travels as necessary for education, site surveys or actual installation or relocation of terminals or minicomputers.May be required to act independently in response to unplanned hardware or software failures.Performs other duties as required or assigned.Education and Experience:

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of 1 year of college, with coursework in the computer science field OR 1.5 years of technical systems and programming experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires sufficient oral and written communication skills for effective engagement with colleagues and internal users/customers.Requires the use and understanding of appropriate methods, tools, applications, and processes.Requires the demonstration of a rational and organized approach to work.Requires sufficient digital skills for their role.Requires the ability to seek to identify learning and professional development opportunities.Requires awareness and adherence to organizational standards for security, privacy and ethics.Requires the ability to follow oral and/or written instructions and to carry out routine operations, once established, without further instructions.Requires working knowledge of systems design and implementation, including the way programs are written, compiled and tested, the methods of operating computers, and the manner in which data is transcribed into a form suitable for reading by computers.Requires working knowledge of the devices for capturing data and the means available for receiving and transmitting data from remote locations to a computer.Requires working knowledge of the principles and techniques of computer system documentation.Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver's license as required by individual positions within the class.Requires the ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 50 lbs.Application Process:
