Role and Responsibilities:
The Data Engineer is responsible for development and support for SFBLI's enterprise data warehouse (EDW). This position will utilize various methods and technology to transform raw data into useful data systems. The Data Engineer will create and maintain all ETL processes for the EDW along with providing operational support in production. The Data Engineer will also work with business areas to help design and load data marts/data sets as needed.
Your responsibilities will include :Builds, enhances, and scales out infrastructure to ingest, process and extract meaning from data.Performs intermediate level modifications to DE databases and ETL/ELT processes, tests changes, and provides changes for approval.Develops new database tables and ETL/ELT processes, performs testing, and provides results for approval.Performs intermediate level modifications to virtual data views, performs testing, and provides changes for approval.Develops new Data Virtualization data sources, views, and stored procedures, performs testing, and provides results for approval.Troubleshoots escalated batch errors, recommends solutions, and implements them, working with DE2/Senior DE/Lead DE as needed.Utilizes or creates data flow diagrams and data models during development.Collaborates with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.Assures that all data processes adhere to the Data Governance guidelines.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Math, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics Preferred) or a combination of education and experienceGraduate Degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Information Systems, Data Science preferredMinimum of 2 years of experience in data engineering or comparable programming/design experienceExperience working at Southern Farm Bureau Life in a role requiring an understanding of the underlying data for various SFB systems preferred.Working knowledge of ETL/ELT processes from source systems to target systems.Working knowledge of the DE development life cycle.Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases as well as working familiarity with a variety of databasesExperience performing root cause analysis on internal data and processes to answer specific business issues and identify opportunities for improvementAbility to establish measurable outcomes and create processes for monitoring progress towards established goals.Ability to make well-informed, effective and timely decisions, even when data is limited or solutions produce unpleasant consequences; perceive the impact and implications of decisions.Ability to function effectively in the workplace as exhibited through one's integrity, courage to act and communication skillsAbility to work with others effectively as exhibited through one's respect for people and commitment to teamworkAbility to meet organizational goals and customer expectations as exhibited through one's accountability for results, commitment to service and initiativeAbility to perform the essential functions of the job as exhibited through one's growth in job knowledge and professional development
