Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 7 am - 7 pm; 5 weekend shifts in 6 weeks, first to float Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of PICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, PALS Must-Have: 2 years of PICU experience; comfortable with first-time travelers Job Description: - Work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with a capacity of up to 12 beds. - Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2. - Handle common diagnoses such as Trach/vent, DKA, respiratory issues, surgical cases (e.g., trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs, seizures). Note: No cardiac cases. - Titrate drips such as propofol, fentanyl, and epinephrine. - Collaborate with a charge nurse who does not take assignments. - No nurse aides/patient care techs in the unit. - Pediatrician available in-house during the day; on-call at night. - Responsible for ventilators, bubble CPAP, and BiPAP troubleshooting. - Interpret telemetry/monitor strips independently. - Work with scheduler for shift arrangements, allowing up to 5 shifts in a block if the unit requires it. - Meet the weekend requirement of 5 shifts in 6 weeks. - Potentially work at least one holiday during the contract. - Floating to pediatrics for full assignments as needed. - Dress code: Any scrub color is acceptable. - Complete 2 twelve-hour shifts of unit/department-specific orientation. - Use EpicCare Inpatient - EMR for charting. - Meet a facility radius rule; candidates must reside outside a specified radius for consideration.
