Salary: $50,398.40 Annually Location : Development Services Center, TX Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202400075 Division: Information Technology Division Department: Information Technology Opening Date: 09/16/2024 Job Summary Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology, the IT Technician identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves problems encountered by City computer users, or the City's various information technology systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs PCs, related peripherals, network equipment, and data cabling. Essential Job Functions Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Administration Develops and implements standards and guidelines for managing technology assets. Collaborates with the Director of Information Technology to plan, design, and implement citywide information systems including operating systems, software, and hardware. Creates process improvements and controls. Responsible for system administration of major platform operating systems. Trains colleagues on new information system technologies and requirements related to administration and operations. Reviews results of special IT investigations, internal audits, research studies, forecasts, and modeling exercises to provide recommendations and guidance. Performs installation and documentation for use with multi-application, multi-user database systems. Coordinates and monitors the troubleshooting of information systems on a daily basis. Coordinates with vendors the documentation and application of solutions to information system problems. Assists in the resolution of critical information system problems and complaints. Acts as administrator for Active Directory and SAN. Acts as administrator for the phone system and server. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Extensive knowledge in Windows, Virtualization technologies, Security, Data Network, Telecommunications, and/or Storage Area Network systems. Principles and practices of local area networks and enterprise networks. Principles and practices of desktop computer operation; functions and applicability of current software products; technical operations of computer hardware and communication equipment. Principles and practices of Firewall configuration including access lists, NAT statements, traffic isolation. VPN technologies and ongoing maintenance; general computer maintenance procedures and repair techniques. Windows-based operating systems for both client and server operations including Active Directory and Group Policy. Microsoft Office Suite applications and additional hardware and software as needed by City staff. Principles and practices of physical access control systems, including troubleshooting, and door creation. Principles and practices of municipal purchasing rules and regulations surrounding asset acquisition and management. Knowledge of municipal records retention requirements, the Public Information Act, and related regulations. Ability to monitor and identify cyber security attacks. Education and Experience High school diploma and at least three years of experience as an IT Technician; or any equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience.
