Staff Accountant Job Description

Position Overview:
We have partnered with a growing client seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join their finance team. This position will focus primarily on cash applications and fixed asset accounting, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial transactions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a passion for improving processes.




Key Responsibilities:

Cash Applications:
  • Manage the timely and accurate application of incoming payments (ACH, wire transfers, credit card, checks, etc.) to customer accounts.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies, unapplied cash, and deductions in coordination with the accounts receivable and customer service teams.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of customer payment statuses, and assist with bank reconciliation processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cash application processes and recommend system enhancements for increased efficiency.
  • Prepare reports detailing cash receipts, unapplied payments, and collection metrics as needed.
Fixed Asset Accounting:
  • Record and track acquisitions, disposals, and transfers of fixed assets according to company policies and accounting standards.
  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure proper categorization and depreciation of assets in accordance with GAAP or other relevant frameworks.
  • Assist with the annual asset verification process, including physical inventory audits of fixed assets.
  • Generate reports detailing capital expenditures (CAPEX), asset aging, and depreciation schedules.



Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with other finance team members on various projects and initiatives.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation and schedules.
  • Stay updated on accounting regulations and best practices, ensuring compliance across all responsibilities.



Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, with a focus on cash applications or fixed assets preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functionally.
