Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) TITLE 32, Position Description Number D1909000 and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard. Responsibilities As a MATERIALS HANDLER (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) TITLE 32, WG-6907-7, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Attach and maintain special documentation to remain with materials throughout the storage/issue process. Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors. Prepare a variety of supply documents and reports. Schedule personnel to facilitate movement in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements and space allocations. Keep records on the use or damage of stock or stock-handling equipment. Enforce safety rules and regulations. Maintain or verify records of time, materials, expenditures, or activities. Prepare and establish correspondence and filing procedures implementing administrative knowledge. Explain and demonstrate work tasks to new workers or assign training tasks to experienced workers. Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s). Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs. Monitor work to ensure proper performance and use of materials. Recommend improvements to existing or planned processes. Requirements Conditions of Employment IAW The Fair Chance Act, Agency employees may not request criminal history information at the point of initial application, upon receipt of an application, or prior to, during or after a job interview. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a trial period. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be available for this position. PCS expenses may be authorized. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - not to exceed rank of SSG. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-07 Level MUST possess specialized experience for the WG-07 Level, which includes experience performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items; experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals; experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
