General Statement of Job
Performs routine activities maintaining city information technology (IT) hardware, software, and systems and supporting users. Primary support for telecommunication and hardware issues. Assists with office automation issues. Serves as technical liaison between Information Technology (IT) Department and city staff. Tracks problem status and provides feedback to end users.
Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position relies on experience and exercises some independent judgement to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures. Reports to the Technical Support Services Manager or designee.
Essential Job Functions

Monitors and completes service requests, maintains current computer and peripheral inventory, and establishes schedules for and performs preventative maintenance.
Provides maintenance, installation, and support of all Information Technology equipment and software, including but not limited to, user workstations, telecommunications equipment, printers, and wiring.
Ensures software license compliance; maintains records of software license purchases; installs and configures computer software on user workstations.
Performs telephone system changes and additions to service including phone lines, features, and voicemail; orders, returns, and repairs new phones and pagers; supports handheld radios used by City Departments including ordering new equipment, making repairs, and troubleshooting issues.
Serves as technical liaison between IT and City staff and computer vendors and consultants; researches and recommends for purchase PCs, telecommunications and network equipment, and supplemental hardware and software.
Participates in managing the uninterrupted functionality and upgrades to the City's Intranet and public website, and network infrastructure and wireless network setup and configuration; assists with the overall operation of servers, including setup and configuration.
Assists with the Active Directory including but not limited to, creating, modifying, and deleting, user accounts and groups and the assignment and removal of permissions.
Assists with testing and implementation of new patches, updates and upgrades to servers, user workstations.
Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.
Demonstrates behaviors that support the City's Vision and Values.
Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city's obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Pay and Bargaining StatusThis is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the white collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by three (3) years of experience supporting and maintaining IT systems and various related fixtures and components; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Required Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is required (and sponsored) within six (6) months of employment according to job duties and responsibilities.
A+ Certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAssociate degree in information technology and one (1) year of experience in a help desk role in a public sector IT department.
