Job Description:Under the direction of the RLHO Information Systems (RIS) Manager, the CMIS Reporting Specialist performs routine data management and extraction duties for the DSHS case management and case investigation system (CMIS), myInsight. The RIS group is responsible for project management and execution, ensuring information security and coordination with IT teams and the RLHO Analytics group to ensure maintenance and optimization of TxS2, CMIS, and Qualtrics. The RIS group is part of the Analytics and Information Management Unit within the RLHO Division. Our mission is to analyze and transform public health information that empowers stakeholders to make data-driven decisions and improve outcomes.

Essential Job Functions:Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

The Reporting Specialist is responsible for:

•Serving as a subject matter expert on the configuration of the CMIS reporting database.

•Writing SQL queries to extract data and creating custom reports beyond standard system offerings.

•Using knowledge of CMIS database configuration to create data dictionaries and report descriptions for end users.

•Identifying, documenting, and defining reporting needs for DSHS RLHO and Central Office Programs.

•Maintaining and distributing data files to the designated destination for access by stakeholders to meet grant, state, and federal reporting requirements, and for general analysis to inform and advance public health practices.

•Interfacing with regional staff, ITPHA and the Analytics Group on reporting requirements, data requests and user-acceptable testing.

•Designing electronic reporting mechanisms, such as automated reports and visualizations for public health purposes.

•Participating in meetings and working groups to discuss data extraction and storage, data policies and procedures, and retention.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:•Knowledge of SQL and database management systems for data extraction and reporting.•Knowledge of metadata standards, data dictionaries, systems design, and report documentation.•Skill in developing electronic reports from databases.•Skill in using SAS, SQL, R, Business Objects, or other software packages.•Skill in complex problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.•Ability to manage, manipulate, and analyze complex databases for public health reporting.•Ability to ensure the confidentiality, security, and integrity of health data.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Initial Selection Criteria:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in informatics, computer science, database management, information systems management, or a related field.

Experience with computer software packages including SQL, SAS, R.

Preferred selection criteria:

Experience in health informatics or clinical data management.

This is a temporary position and expected to last up to July 31, 2026. Upon hire, the selected candidate will be required to sign a Temporary Employment Agreement indicating awareness that the employment status of the position is temporary.
