We are looking for an exceptional
Director of Engineering
to join our innovative R&D team at Spectra-Physics, which is the Lasers Business Unit of MKS Instruments. We push the boundaries of technology to develop a wide range of nanosecond, picosecond, and femtosecond lasers that address the needs of Industrial, Scientific, and Life and Health markets. In this position, you will build, lead, and develop groups that are developing innovative next-generation free-space and fiber-based laser systems. You will also be responsible for contributing to the development, communication, and execution of the Lasers BU strategic growth initiatives.You will make an impact by:Leading the software, electrical and mechanical engineering design and development teams across multiple locations.Developing vision, technology roadmap and engineering objectives for these engineering functions.Maintaining knowledge of relevant emerging technologies, and driving innovation initiatives to identify, recommend, and implement new technologies, systems and tools to improve our products and effectiveness.Developing and establishing processes and tools to facilitate effective collaboration across product lines, functions and sites and drive faster project cadence.Managing resources and budgets to ensure effective and consistent execution of product and technology development projects and sustaining activities.Formulating, directing and executing value engineering activities, and enabling long term plans for product cost control/profitability.Minimum Qualifications:10+ years of cross-functional management experience in a product development environment, with a strong understanding of software / embedded firmware development and electrical engineering as well as a general knowledge of mechanical design and engineering.Experience in mentoring engineering managers and staff, including multi-site teams.Familiarity with the fundamentals of engineering management, project management, agile methodologies, product development processes, problem-solving methodologies, and quality and reliability processes.Strong critical thinking skills, in combination with excellent written and verbal communications skills.Knowledge of technology trends, best practices, and change management.B.S. degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.Positive attitude for working with a diverse, dynamic, and multi-disciplinary team.These Skills are Also Nice to Have:Lasers, optics and photonics.Relevant professional coursework, training, or certification.We are interested in a qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we will not be sponsoring work visas for this position, at this time.Compensation and Benefits:Salary Pay Range: $173,000 to $321,400 per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.
