Job OverviewWe are in search of a strategic and seasoned Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to spearhead our financial operations and strategic direction. Our graduate institution, situated in the vibrant city of Boston, is committed to cultivating the next generation of eye care professionals, educators, and pioneers through a robust curriculum and comprehensive clinical training. Catering to approximately 530 students hailing from 34 states and 8 countries, we also operate the Center for Eye Care, our clinical education affiliate, which facilitates essential optometric services with nearly 90,000 patient visits annually across more than 43 locations, including numerous community health centers in Greater Boston.

Key Responsibilities

As the CFO, you will be entrusted with overseeing all financial operations, ensuring precision, efficiency, and adherence to professional and legal accounting standards. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to propel our mission forward. Your primary responsibilities will encompass:Directing accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance and financial data analysis.Overseeing the reconciliation of clinic revenues and expenses, as well as revenue from professional services agreements.Managing fixed asset inventory and reviewing contracts and business agreements.Handling student billing and collections while addressing the implications of withdrawals, leaves, and graduations.Supervising the management of endowment draws and spending policies related to restricted funds.Managing PILOT and other essential payment programs.Preparing a monthly internal financial reporting package, including comparative financial statements.Leading the annual audit process and institutional reporting to external entities.Overseeing the development of both operational and capital budgets, as well as managing the annual budget process.Supervising key departments including the Business Office, Financial Aid Office, and Grants and Contracts Accounting and Administration.Assessing and managing institutional risks and insurance agreements.Developing and upholding internal audit control systems.Required SkillsThe ideal candidate will demonstrate:A well-established record in financial strategy formulation, cost management, and operational enhancement.Strong leadership capabilities alongside effective communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.Solid financial acumen and strategic insight, coupled with technological proficiency.Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities in a dynamic environment.A commitment to high integrity, ethical standards, and a focus on innovation.QualificationsA Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or an MBA (CPA or equivalent advanced degree preferred).A minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior financial management role within higher education or nonprofit healthcare.Familiarity with financial systems and tools (prior knowledge of Jenzabar is advantageous).Understanding of Board of Trustees operations, including presentations and report preparation.Career Growth OpportunitiesIn this pivotal leadership role, you will have the chance to lead a team of financial professionals, driving operational improvements and contributing to the institution’s mission of excellence in eye care education.
