Job Details

As the Cost Accounting Manager, you will lead the U.S. cost accounting function. In this role, you'll ensure data accuracy, maintain the integrity of product costs, oversee inventory valuation, and ensure alignment with established accounting policies. You will manage a team, drive key cost accounting processes, and work closely with cross-functional teams to support financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor the Cost Accounting team, set priorities, and provide direction to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Oversee the annual standard cost updates for materials, labor, and overhead, partnering with departments such as Operations, Procurement, and Engineering to develop planned rates and manage related reporting.

Ensure the accuracy of master data and establish processes for the set-up of new items. Collaborate with various departments to drive continuous improvement in data management.

Analyze monthly variances related to materials, labor, and overhead, offering explanations and insights to the finance team and recommending updates to systems when necessary.

Manage the capitalization and amortization schedules for cost variances, ensuring accurate balance sheet reconciliations and adjustments to amortization periods.

Work closely with Operations and Product teams to set appropriate financial reserves for obsolete and slow-moving inventory.

Ensure inventory control processes comply with company policies, partner with site teams to assess count accuracy, and lead efforts to optimize cycle count coverage.

Support cost accounting initiatives related to the launch of new manufacturing sites.

Evaluate changes in product design, raw materials, or production processes to assess cost impacts and recommend system updates accordingly.

Lead internal and external audits related to cost accounting.

Collaborate with finance and operational teams to establish and track performance metrics related to cost-saving initiatives,

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

At least 7 years of experience in finance or accounting, with a focus on manufacturing cost accounting.

A minimum of 2 years in a leadership role, with experience in mentoring and developing a team.

Extensive experience in a standard costing environment, with a deep understanding of ERP systems and costing modules.

Strong analytical skills, project management expertise, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Proven track record of identifying improvement opportunities and implementing effective solutions.

Ability to translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations for non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred:

Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.

Professional certifications such as CPA or CMA.

Experience working in a Big 4 accounting firm or similar consulting role.
