Description

The Vaccine Coordinator assists with vaccine management and training, including supply and inventory duties, monitoring ongoing vaccine compliance and education for children and families. As directed and supervised by healthcare professional, performs a variety of patient care activities appropriate to the patient population to contribute to healthcare by preparing patients for visits and enhancing patient flow in accordance with established department policies, standards, procedures and compliance with regulations. Ensures accurate and timely documentation of the medical chart under the supervision of the medical provider; assists the provider by accompanying them during the patient examination to record detailed information into the electronic medical record (EMR)

Essential Functions:
  • Vaccine inventory management to include, but not limited to, recording physical inventory of vaccines(shipped/received/administed), focasting needs and handling procedures(recording temperature logs, cold chain procedure).
  • Developing and implementing vaccine emergency plan.
  • Communicate with clinical staff about upcoming immunication training opportunites, vaccine updates and program changes.
  • Receives patients, determines chief complaints, reviews medical history prior to exam and updates as appropriate
  • As directed and supervised by healthcare professional, collects and records a variety of routine patient data as part of check in procedures including, but not limited to: height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and glucose screen
  • Retrieves patient chart, reviews for completeness and obtains outside test results as appropriate
  • Performs patient checkout instructions; implements medical orders
  • Identifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors and treatment reactions to appropriate healthcare professional
  • Prepares exam room for procedures, organizes instruments and equipment; assists healthcare provider during outpatient surgical procedures, applies/removes dressings
  • Cleans and sanitizes exam room and fixtures by removing soiled materials/instruments, replacing exam paper sheets and wiping counter areas to provide for efficient room turns
  • Performs lab draws and basic tests; seals and packages for processing by laboratory
  • As supervised by healthcare professional, administers immunizations to patients in accordance with physician orders
  • Assists review and reinforce education of basic healthcare procedures and activities
  • Actively participates/assists during urgent care situations as directed; initiates and administers CPR as appropriate
  • Maintains current all records of medication and related health care provided in accordance with all applicable regulations, licensing requirements and standards
  • Performs visual inventory of stock and laboratory items; re-orders items to provide for availability of supplies for optimum efficient clinic operations
  • Assisting with communication between medical provider and other medical staff members.
  • Tracking laboratory and imaging studies to alert medical provider when resulted.
  • Ensuring medical record compliance by documenting an attestation to include: Scribe name, title and medical provider working with as well as specific date and time entry.
  • Participates in a variety of in-services and unit meetings to maintain understanding of care plan changes
  • Refers problems beyond standards of practice to healthcare professional as appropriate
  • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
  • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • One year of patient care experience, preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, preferred
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • BLS certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days
