You areAs a Sr. Accountant you will assist with the day-to-day transactional accounting operations of the organization. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Accounting, in this position, you will primarily engage with the month-end and year-end closing processes, reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, review expense reports and ensure all accounting policies of the organization are followed.

Responsibilities

Compiles and analyzes account data to create capital, liability, and asset account entriesEnters account details to document financial transactions into general ledger and assigned subledgers, such as billing, accounts payable, accounts receivableAudits records to substantiate financial transactionsPrepares and recommends procedures and policies for maintaining accounting controlsCoordinates various activities and responses for annual audits, new contract award and annual compliance reporting to various agencies, including SBA, tax agencies, etcCollects and examines account information necessary to reconcile financial discrepanciesCompletes database backups to secure financial informationFollows internal controls to ensure financial securityVerifies documentation, requests expenditures, and prepares disbursements for accounts payable and travel expensesResearch and interpret accounting regulations and policies to resolve procedural questionsAdvises management on necessary operations to enforce adherence to legal requirementsGathers, interprets, and compiles account trends and data to create specialized financial reportsEnsures client confidentiality by keeping financial information secureReview and validate monthly transactions entered all ledgers and subledgers and enter any adjusting entries requiredManage general ledger and assist month-end and year-end close processesMonthly reconciliations general ledger account balances, bank statements, and request corrections for any reconciling itemsGather documentation, prepare reports, assist with budgeting, and assist Finance Director in interpreting complicated financial information for managers, executives, and auditorsUpdating financial system including contracts, billing, projects, accounts payable and receivables etc. according to customer requirements and reporting associated budget amendmentsExtensive experience in project invoicing and billingPrepare and update contract and project budgets, financial forecasts, and tax reports.Generate and distribute invoices and purchase orders, to customersReview contracts and create new projects for government contracts, subcontractors, vendors, etc.Assist with monitoring receivable income and supporting project managers with collectionsData entry transactions related to contracts, billing, project, A/P & A/R, travel expenses etc.Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a senior accounting role.Extensive experience with Deltek software is highly desiredThrough understanding of government contracting and compliance requirements.Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlinesBenefits

This position also has oversight of several programs/projects and may be the initial point of contact for individuals engaged in those activities.

Work EnvironmentThis position will be a hybrid role (office and home) with work primarily from the Chantilly, Virginia office location. The employee should ensure that the appropriate home office equipment is available to satisfy the requirements of the positions. This job operates in a professional office environment during travel.

Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position that will require a minimum of 40 hours per week. Hours of work can be set by the individual; however, they should fall within the core hours of 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Attendance at meetings or other events may necessitate a change in standard hours.

TravelTravel will be required on an as needed basis to Chantilly, VA and for business and client needs as necessary.
