An individual will be hired

EITHER

as a Code Inspector or Code Enforcement Officer depending on qualifications.

Code Inspector:

Summary

Responsible for enforcing city ordinances dealing with Property Maintenance, Minimum Housing, Single Family, Multi-Family and Zoning with a primary focus in residential areas.

Salary: $18.14 - $23.29/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesRespond to and investigate citizen complaints.Actively patrol assigned areas to review for code violations.Issue notices of violation, citations and nuisance abatement work orders for city contractors.Enforce minimum housing standards in assigned areas and prepare cases for Property Standards Board including Notification of Condemnation.Enforce City Ordinances and International Building and Residential Codes by performing scheduled inspections.Represent City in court as required.Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GEDNo related experience necessaryOr an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

60 college credit hours advanced training beyond high school level in related area.Up to 1-year experience in code enforcement or similar experienceKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:

General knowledge of applicable ordinances, laws, codes and regulationsGeneral knowledge of construction standards and inspection procedures Ability to learn quickly and remain flexible in a fast paced work environment Ability to maintain neat and concise dataMulti-lingual (Spanish) skills highly preferredBasic skills in Microsoft Office (including: Word, Outlook, Excel)Licenses and Certifications

Registered Texas Code Enforcement Officer* or ability to obtain in 1 yearTexas Real Estate Commission Professional Inspector License, preferredValid Class C Texas driver's license*Based on current code requirements

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. Must be able to walk on uneven and unpaved surfaces.

Code Enforcement Officer:

Summary

Salary: $19.37 - $24.95/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Public Administration, Construction Science, etc.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
