Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY:
The Operating Room RN is responsible for the delivery and documentation of patient care during the intra-operative period. The RN will assess the patient's needs, physiologically as well as emotionally, and plan nursing care accordingly. The nursing role during this phase focuses on providing quality patient care through familiarity with and adherence to policies and procedures, and standards of practice for perioperative nursing. She/he will also monitor compliance to established standards and policies and procedures for surgical scrubs. He/she will facilitate and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
The Pre-Op/Admitting nurse provides nursing care to patients being admitted for surgery. The nursing role during this phase focuses on assessing, identifying, and solving nursing care and pre-operative problems. The nurse is responsible for starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-operative medications, performing pre-operative instruction, explanation of patient's rights and procedures. The nurse will be responsible to calling patients prior to procedure for the preoperative admission times and health history. They must facilitate and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
The PACU, Phase I nurse provides nursing care to patients returning from surgery. The nursing role during this phase focuses on assisting the patient through the transition from an anesthetized state to an awake condition. The nurse is responsible for assisting and maintaining adequate ventilation, hemostasis and circulation; assessing level of consciousness, providing pain management, and ensuring the safety of the patient until transferred to another unit. He/she must facilitate and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Adheres to and practices MVH Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.Is knowledgeable of policies and procedures of the department and facility.Maintains professional competency through appropriate continuing education.Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein, or as assigned by the Team Leader/Charge Nurse, OR Manager, and Director of Surgical Services.Demonstrates an awareness of safe conditions and safe acts as related to hospital employment.Current BLS, ACLS and PALS Certification.Complies with attendance requirements per Mountain View Hospital Policy.The Operating Room RN:
Assists in the setting up and performance of cases by assembly of equipment, opening of sterile pack, and supplies according to sterile technique.Prepares each patient for surgery by: positioning the patient in the appropriate position, preparing the patient's operative site, confirming the procedure and site according to the surgeon's history and physical and operating room team, and helping move the patient to and from the operating table. Obtain ordered medications through medication dispensing system. Prepare ordered solutions for surgical cases.Prepares each patient for surgery by: positioning the patient in the appropriate position, preparing the patient's operative site, confirming the procedure and site according to the surgeon's history and physical and operating room team, and helping move the patient to and from the operating table. Prepare ordered solutions for surgical cases.Carries out physician/anesthesia orders including preoperative medications.Communicates appropriate information to other members of the healthcare team in a timely manner.Complete preoperative calls per policy.The PACU, Phase I & II RN:
Assess patients on admission to PACU for the following:
Patient airwayRespirationsVital SignsLevel of consciousness according to the Aldrete scaleLevel of pain (treat Postoperative pain effectively.
Assess surgical site for bleeding, reinforce dressing and notifying physician if increased drainage.Proficient knowledge of drugs used in the PACU.Responds appropriately to emergency situations, recognizing the need for assistance and obtaining support from anesthesia personnel and/or physician as needed.Preforms discharge teaching to patient and family and appropriate report to staff.Duties of the RN if Team Leader/Charge Nurse:
Make copies of the surgery schedule for RN's and anesthesia providers.Reviews and updates the surgery schedule and staffing if needed.Be available by the surgery phone for questions and concerns.Coordinates the flow of patients and assignments with nurse manager.Supervises and trouble-shoots the operations of the department for the day.Checks with PACU i.e. staffing needs.

Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Idaho required. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required. CNOR certification preferred.
Experience:
Operating room experience preferred or one year nursing experience.
Equipment/Technology:
Operating room equipment and computer knowledge.
Language/Communication:
Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.
Mathematical Skills:
Dosage Calculation and General mathematical Skills
