Job Duties

As part of The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a critical role in the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified people start businesses and work in their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor and are responsible for regulating certain professions and occupations, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.

This position will provide administrative, logistical, and business support services to the Executive Director and Board Administrators for the assigned boards. The successful candidate will coordinate Board related functions and serve as the primary point of contact for board members, attorneys, other intra-agency divisions, government officials, and the general public.

TELEWORK OPTIONS: Please note that this position may be eligible for limited telework and is not a full-time telework position. Upon hire into this position, the agency requires the incumbent to be in the position for 90 days before a specific telework schedule may be submitted for consideration.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must have the following:•Experience in meeting planning, progressively managing administrative projects and business operations, and office practices or equivalent combination of education/experience.•Proven customer service experience.•Significant experience handling multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.•Knowledge of business procedures, office procedures, and office equipment and its proper usage.•Ability to maintain discretion when handling confidential and sensitive matters.•Ability to perform a wide variety of moderate to complex program and administrative support duties.•Strong organizational skills.•Ability to coordinate, procure, and obtain necessary equipment, facilities, materials, and services needed to accomplish the boards' business operations in compliance with applicable requirements.•Ability to compose clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents.•Ability to read and apply regulation and statutes.•Proficiency in the use of computer software applications.•Effective time management.•Strong oral communication skills.•Ability to pay close attention to detail and provide accurate information and guidance.•Ability to research and gather facts, analyze finding, reach logical conclusion, and recommend solutions.•Ability to independently identify and prioritize problems and make recommendations for improvements

Additional Considerations•Additional coursework and/or training related to English, grammar, and/or business writing is preferred.•Experience in a regulatory environment preferred.•Experience preparing and amending electronic documents preferred.•Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) preferred.
